Sun NXT Shorts: Sun TV Network enters micro-drama space with over 150 short-form titles

Sun NXT Shorts | Photo Credit: Sun TV Network Sun TV Network has announced the launch of Sun NXT Shorts, marking the company’s entry into the micro-drama space with a catalogue of more than 150 titles and originals across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. The service is integrated into the existing Sun NXT ecosystem and is designed to bring short-format storytelling to both mobile devices and television.The catalogue combines newly commissioned short-form series with reworked content from Sun TV Network’s extensive library. Blockbuster films and popular television serials have been remastered, resized and re-edited into fast-paced episodes designed for viewing in short bursts.Among the films being adapted for the format are Rajinikanth’s Endhiran, Suriya’s Ayan and Dhanush’s Thiruchitrambalam. Popular Sun TV serials including Ethirneechal, Kayal and Sundari will also be reconfigured into shorter episodic formats.Sun NXT Shorts will also carry international dubbed shorts and original series, expanding the service beyond repackaged catalogue content. The platform is designed to appeal to Sun NXT’s existing family audience while bringing shorter, mobile-oriented storytelling to younger viewers, including Gen Z audiences.The service is also introducing different visual treatments depending on the viewing device. On mobile phones, the content uses tighter framing and close-ups suited to smaller screens, while television viewing uses a 4:3 format that retains more of the surrounding environment and background.According to Sun TV Network Executive Director Kaviya Maran, the launch is built around the company’s existing catalogue of approximately 65,000 hours of content, which gives Sun NXT Shorts a substantial library to draw from as short-form viewing grows.Sun NXT Shorts is available through the Sun NXT app, with content offered across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
