Stray dogs bring human head to cricket ground, cops trace it to railway accident

Panic gripped a Bengaluru suburb after a man's severed head was found on a cricket ground there. While the gruesome discovery initially sparked fears of a murder, police later confirmed that the remains belonged to the victim of a railway accident.The incident took place in Varthur. According to a senior official, the police rushed to the spot after a call was received from the ground's security guard, who reported that stray dogs had brought a human head onto the premises.A thorough search carried out in the surrounding area with help from the railway police revealed that a 25-year-old man, identified as a native of Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor district, had died in a railway accident near the tracks, about 300 metres from the ground, the night before.His body was already shifted to a government hospital and an unnatural death report (UDR) was registered by the railway police by the time the head was found. Police suspect it was severed in the train accident and later dragged to the cricket ground by stray dogs. The head has been sent for forensic examination. The railway police are leading the investigation with support from Bengaluru City Police. The exact circumstances leading to the accident are under investigation."Given the impact and speed of a train, it is possible that the head was thrown some distance away during the accident. We believe stray dogs may have later carried the severed head to the cricket ground early this morning. This is the information we gathered after our officers visited the spot and coordinated with the railway police," Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Saidulu Advaith, Whitefield Division, said.
