Stephen Steinbrink – “I’m A Swimming Pool”

Oakland singer-songwriter and visual artist Stephen Steinbrink is releasing his new album In A Split Mirror at the end of the week. We've already heard its meditative lead single "Magic Mirror." Today, he's sharing one last single before the full release, the gently rippling "I'm A Swimming Pool," which comes with a colorful animated music video made by Steinbrink himself. As he explains:When I was a kid in Arizona, I would swim in my friend’s pool. My favorite move was to hold my breath, float face down and try to create as little rippling in the water as possible to achieve this feeling of total weightlessness. In Phoenix summers, the upper depths of the water wasn’t too far off from matching my internal temperature and it created this sensation of disconnection from my body that I loved, feeling like I was a part of the water. It's about being in the pool.I made the accompanying animation by collaging together photographs I've taken over the years with other external images to create little phantasmagorical tableaus. I drew them over several months, drawing the same image over and over again and then animating them together to create the breathing, boiling movement in the colors and textures.Listen below. In A Split Mirror is out 10/30 on Sedimentary Archive/Mansions And Millions.
