State govt.’s announcement of Mini Textile Park in Embal gladdens locals

The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government’s annuouncement in its maiden Budget 2026-2027 that a Mini Textile Park would be established at Thirapidingi in Embal firca in Avudaiyarkoil taluk in the industrially backward Pudukottai district has gladdened locals who strongly feel that it could spur employment for rural women and empower them economically.The demand for setting up a Mini Textile Park in Embal consistently putforth by the locals of the region fructified when it found place in the announcement during the Industries Department’s demand for grants in the Legislative Assembly made by the Minister for Industries S. Keerthana on Tuesday. As per the department’s announcement, the Mini Textile Park would be set up by the SIPCOT (State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu) jointly with the textile units association on an area measuring 2.47 acres at Thirapidingi at an estimated cost of ₹25 crore. The new facility would create employment for around 500 women directly besides creating job opportunities indirectly.The need for creating a local industrial facility in the form of a Mini Textile Park at Embal that would create sustainable employment especially for rural women who were faced with limited opportunities and a stable job commenced more than two years ago by the Embal Development Group which has been making continuous representations to the elected representatives, ministers and government authorities since then.Acting on the representations, a feasibility report on setting up the Mini Textile Park was prepared by SIPCOT and submitted to its headquarters at Chennai in November last year. Government land measuring 3.5 hectares was identified for this purpose near Embal then. However, things did not take off after that.The Embal Development Group has expressed happiness and thanked the Chief Minister and the Industries Minister for including the Mini Textile Park in the 2026-2027 Budget. It has termed the announcement as a milestone as it could create a sustainable employment in the region. With the Mini Textile Park having been announced in the Budget, necessary administrative approvals and fund allocation for project implementation must be expedited now, says P. Perinbanathan, Lead Coordinator, Embal Development Group. Similarly, land identified for this purpose should be developed and basic infrastructure required for setting up the textile park should be done speedily. Steps should also be taken to attract suitable textile and allied units to establish operations.
