For Bon Secours Mercy Health, Ensemble Health Partners is the gift that keeps on giving. Seven years after the nonprofit health system sold stakes in its in-house billing and collections company to private equity investors, it still rakes in eye-popping amounts of cash from its minority position, with payments topping $1 billion so far this year. About two weeks ago, the Cincinnati, Ohio-based system said it got a hefty $671 million payment from Ensemble Health Partners when the company signed a new private equity sponsor. That’s on top of a $427 million distribution Bon Secours Mercy recorded in February.
