STAT+: Advocates say federal funding is being cut from groups fighting HIV

WASHINGTON — Community-based groups that provide HIV testing and prevention tools are pushing federal health officials to renew a crucial funding program that recently lapsed. If the funding isn’t renewed, expanded access to HIV preventive care would be in jeopardy, and some groups may be forced to close, Jeremiah Johnson, executive director of advocacy group PrEP4All told STAT. “We’ve heard from some CBOs [community-based organizations] that they won’t survive the cuts,” he said.
