Directed by Shawn Levy, the upcoming Star Wars movie stars Ryan Gosling, with a supporting cast that includes Amy Adams, Aaron Pierre, Mia Goth, Matt Smith, Daniel Ings, and Flynn Gray. Targeting a theatrical release on May 28, 2027, the movie represents the franchise's return to the big screen after the weak performance of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026) earlier this year. Per a new report from Forbes, Disney is betting big on Star Wars: Starfighter, as it currently stands as one of the most expensive installments in the franchise yet. The report reveals that, by January 31, 2026, Disney had spent $226.5 million producing the film. After UK tax incentives are taken into account, net costs on Starfighter are reduced to $175 million, but this still represents a higher spend at this point in production than Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) and Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017). 2019's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, however, had spent more, with its UK production company recording costs reaching £281.6 million by a comparable stage in the film's production. It's important to note that the $226.5 million figure is not Starfighter's final budget, but just what Disney had spent on the production (before tax incentives) up until a certain point. The largest individual expense mentioned in the report as part of this total is $17.6 million, which went toward staff costs. The average monthly workforce for the movie was 239 people. The figure mentioned above does not include any money spent after January 31, and it doesn't take into account Starfighter's lengthy post-production pipeline, which includes VFX. The film's production costs are expected to rise further as post-production continues. More to come...
