Despite how important the Jedi Order is to Star Wars, the franchise has only had one Order for decades. The prequel trilogy of Star Wars movies saw the original Jedi Order fall alongside the Republic, Luke didn't establish a new Order in the original trilogy, and the Jedi Academy Luke established in the comics was destroyed by Ben Solo long before the sequel trilogy began. For decades now, both in the real world and in the Star Wars timeline, the galaxy has been without a Jedi Order after the original was destroyed in Revenge of the Sith. Many fans assumed Luke would rebuild the Jedi after Return of the Jed, but aside from an attempt to train younglings that was thwarted between movies, he never managed to resurrect the Order. The task of rebuilding the Jedi now falls to Rey Skywalker in the aftermath of The Rise of Skywalker, but fans have also been waiting years for Rey's version of the Jedi Order. The upcoming New Jedi Order movie promises to finally deliver a new Order, but it has been in development limbo for years, since it was announced in 2023. Simon Kinberg's trilogy of upcoming Star Wars movies, which are speculated to be Episodes X, XI, and XII, will presumably feature Rey's new Jedi Order, but those films are also still years away from hitting theaters. It's been seven years since The Rise of Skywalker promised to introduce Rey's new Jedi Order, and Star Wars is still no closer to fulfilling that promise in canon. Outside of Star Wars canon, however, the franchise has had much more success in rebuilding the Jedi. The non-canon series Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi recently introduced a new Jedi Order for the first time since the old Expanded Universe. It may not be canon, but The Ninth Jedi's new Order is the first successful effort to rebuild the Jedi in decades, and it's the first time Disney has managed to establish a new Jedi Order, so it's worth learning about. The Ninth Jedi's New Jedi Council Has 7 Confirmed Members Image via Disney+ By the end of The Ninth Jedi episode 8, Lah Kara had reestablished the Jedi Order with seven total confirmed members. Kara herself is presumably the Grand Master of the Order. She proved that she was the strongest of the Jedi in the Force and in lightsaber dueling by defeating Nawaam, The Ninth Jedi's antagonist, in battle and by mastering her emotions. Though she briefly wielded both red and silver blades, representing the dark side and balance, respectively, Kara rededicated herself to the light side and wields the show's only green lightsaber. Alongside Kara are two other founding members of the Jedi Order, Homen and Ethan. Both Homen and Ethan were among the group who originally responded to Margrave Juro's call to rebuild the Jedi Order in Star Wars: Visions season 1. While Ethan has always been a Jedi, Homen was originally consumed by the dark side of the Force. After intervention from Juro, however, his lightsaber switched to a purple color, and he joined the Jedi in earnest. Lah Kara, Ethan, Homen, and Margrave Juro also administered several lightsabers through the course of The Ninth Jedi, and those characters all went on to properly join the Jedi Order in the show's finale. The first lightsaber they distributed was to Lord Dunbai, the leader of Makoma Ko. Dunbai was previously a Jedi, either in Reno Tsutara's Jedi Academy or even earlier, possibly in the original Order. While he was initially a merchant dedicated to protecting Makoma Ko, Dunbai eventually rejoined the Jedi. The Ninth Jedi's New Jedi Order Members Lah Kara Homen Ethan Dunbai Kwana Lady Tafflah Bee-Toh The next Jedi the group gave a lightsaber to was Kwana, the leader of a mining asteroid. Kwana previously studied at Reno Tsutara's academy alongside Margrave Juro and Lah Zhima, but he didn't have much aptitude in the Force. Still, he readily joined the fight against Nawaam and proved himself a competent lightsaber duelist, strategist, and leader. Lady Tafflah, a leader of the planet Bibin, also received a lightsaber much later on in The Ninth Jedi. Tafflah wasn't trained as a Jedi, though she did live on Bibin at the same time Reno Tsutara was training new Jedi Knights, so she had knowledge of Lah Zhima's role in his death. She was initially distrustful of all Jedi because of Zhima's actions, but they gained Tafflah's support after helping her evacuate Bibin in the wake of Nawaam's super weapon attacking. Lastly, a former Jedi hunter named Bee-Toh also joined Lah Kara's Jedi Order. Bee-Toh joined Kara after she spared his life, and because he liked challenging himself by fighting strong enemies. Previously, Bee-Toh was one of the hunters who captured Lah Zhima for Nawaam. Despite his dark past and his seemingly minimal connection to the Force, Bee-Toh's lightsaber immediately shined blue, indicating he was aligned with the light side of the Force. Do Lah Zhima & Nawaam Join The Order At The End Of The Ninth Jedi? Image via Disney+ While there are only seven confirmed members of the new Jedi Order at the end of The Ninth Jedi, there's a chance that number could be as high as nine. Both Lah Zhima and Nawaam may have joined Lah Kara's Jedi Order off-screen, though they weren't included in the Council's first meeting. Lah Zhima almost certainly did rejoin the Jedi Order, as he was formerly a Jedi before killing the corrupt Reno Tsutara, and because his daughter was also on the Council. Nawaam spends much of The Ninth Jedi as an antagonist with the goal of bringing order to the galaxy by force. However, just after revealing the new Jedi Council, The Ninth Jedi included a scene of Lah Zhima presenting the captured Nawaam with a new lightsaber, seemingly trusting him to turn his blade back to a Jedi color like blue or green. The show doesn't reveal what happens, but it's implied that Nawaam has had a change of heart and is rededicated to the light side of the Force. Given his apparent change of heart, it's quite possible that Nawaam becomes the titular ninth Jedi. The Ninth Jedi was previously applied to Lah Kara, as she was the ninth person to respond to Margrave Juro's call to action in the original Star Wars: Visions episode, but the title doesn't fit her perfectly. While she was the ninth person in attendance, the vast majority of them were Sith, not Jedi, and Kara was one of a group of four Jedi for the majority of her story. Nawaam, on the other hand, would be the ninth member of the new Jedi Order, assuming Lah Zhima also joined, which makes The Ninth Jedi fit as a title much better for him than it did for Kara. The Ninth Jedi's ending is purposefully vague, but it is implied that Lah Kara's Jedi Order has nine members in total, counting Lah Zhima and Nawaam. Since there is some ambiguity, however, only seven members can be confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt. It also remains to be seen how long The Ninth Jedi's new Order will remain the newest Jedi Order in Star Wars.
