First announced back in September 2021 alongside a brief teaser trailer, the remake of the 2003 RPG by BioWare has seemingly disappeared into thin air, especially after the project, which was originally being developed by Aspyr, was soon taken over by Saber Interactive in 2022. Add to that a ton of development issues, and many fans believed that the highly anticipated Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake had been unceremoniously canceled. However, worries were soon put to bed back in March 2025 when Saber Interactive's creative director, Tim Willits, came forward with a brand-new update, revealing that the remake was still in production. Now, over a year on, and fans have been graced with yet another update, but unfortunately, we will be waiting for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake a little bit longer still. According to Saber’s new chief business officer, Steve Allison, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake is planned for a 2028 launch. "We’re preparing to do more self publishing and I’m here to organize the group in preparation of the lineup forming for 2028 [...] that includes Space Marine, Wick, hopefully KOTOR remake, and a few unannounced titles," he explained. The catch here is that the source comes from Reddit, and has since been reshared. As such, it is worth taking this news with a pinch of salt as there is no official source. Nevertheless, with a 2028 release planned, it is likely the only update we are going to receive for a while, so take that as you will. As you can imagine, the latest update has seen KOTOR fans descend onto r/kotor to share their thoughts, especially on the fact that we still have a lot more waiting to do before we finally get our hands on the highly anticipated remake. "Well then, I guess if it comes in 2028 there won't be a physical release. Bummer," one comment said, referring to PlayStation gradually phasing out physical releases in the new year. Another said, ""Hopefully KOTOR remake" doesn't sound much reassuring." With some fans hesitant to believe that this is a legitimate message from Allison, whilst others are annoyed at having to wait yet another year and a half for a game that was first released back in 2021, it seems as though Saber Interactive has a lot to prove when it does finally launch Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake.
