Sign in to your ScreenRant account Ahsoka season 2 is set to release at the beginning of next year, a brand-new season of epic Star Wars television continuing the adventures of Ahsoka Tano and her allies during the New Republic Era. However, a brand-new Star Wars series has just been announced as well, one that will directly set up the events of Ahsoka season 2 and the epic confrontation with Grand Admiral Thrawn. At the end of Ahsoka's first season, Rosario Dawson's Ahsoka Tano was left stranded on the extragalactic world of Peridia alongside her Padawan Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), left to face the "Dark Jedi" mercenaries Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati in search of a mysterious supernatural power. Likewise, Ahsoka and Sabine had just helped Eman Esfandi's exiled Jedi hero Ezra Bridger sneak aboard Thrawn's Star Destroyer just before he and his forces jumped to lightspeed back to the main Star Wars galaxy. While Ahsoka's finale episode ended with Ezra making his way back to the New Republic and reuniting with General Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Marvel's brand-new series Star Wars: Ahsoka - Escape From Thrawn will reveal exactly how Bridger managed to evade the Grand Admiral and his Imperial Remnant soldiers before the events of Ahsoka season 2. Marvel Announces Star Wars: Ahsoka - Escape From Thrawn Starring Ezra Bridger Coming from writer Rodney Barnes with a story from Ahsoka creator Dave Filoni (who's also Lucasfilm's new President and Chief Creative Officer), Escape From Thrawn is set to be a five-issue miniseries with art from Andrea Di Vito. With its first issue set to hit store shelves the same day Ahsoka season 2's premiere hits streaming in January, the new and canonical series will truly be the perfect companion piece for Ahsoka fans. According to the new announcement and cover art reveal on StarWars.com, readers will learn how Ezra managed to evade Grand Admiral Thrawn and his soldiers while stowing away aboard the Chimaera: Witness the unseen story of EZRA BRIDGER's daring flight from Peridea! Ezra narrowly escaped his exile beyond the known galaxy by stowing away aboard GRAND ADMIRAL THRAWN's flagship, but his fight to return home is far from over! Hunted across hyperspace with nowhere to hide, the rebel hero must now evade CAPTAIN ENOCH, counter the dark magick of the NIGHTSISTERS, and outwit the Empire's greatest strategist if he hopes to make it off the Chimaera alive. Based on this new synopsis, it does seem as though the five-issue series will take us right up to the moment in Ahsoka's finale where Ezra makes it back to the New Republic to reunite with Hera and Chopper. It follows that we'll likely receive new insights into Grand Admiral Thrawn's new allies like his second-in-command Enoch as well as the Nightsisters' Great Mothers and their power to reanimate the dead, turning Thrawn's fallen men into dangerous Night Troopers. At the same time, one can hope that this new series might shed new light on Ezra and Thrawn's shared exile, which lasted nearly a decade in the Star Wars timeline. As seen in the series finale of Star Wars Rebels, Thrawn and Ezra were sent to Peridea by a pod of space whales known as Purrgil summoned by Bridger to help free his homeworld of Lothal, explaining why one of the Rebellion's greatest heroes and the Empire's greatest tactician were both missing during the entirety of the Galactic Civil War. At any rate, Ezra's new Escape From Thrawn series sounds like it will be a very exciting new Star Wars chapter when it releases early next year. Star Wars: Ahsoka - Escape From Thrawn #1 releases January 20th, 2027 from Marvel Comics. Release Date January 19, 2027 Network Disney+ Series Ahsoka Episodes 8
