The rumors about Star Wars: Battlefront 3 are getting more serious as time goes by, and at this point, they’re not even being treated as rumors anymore, despite the fact that the game hasn’t been announced. It’s been nearly a decade since the release of the last iteration in the series, Star Wars: Battlefront 2. The game was met with some negative criticism, which was a disappointment to many. Nevertheless, there’s no denying that fans are waiting for the next entry in the series, so much so that some fans even created a legacy mod for Star Wars: Battlefront 2. However, it seems that fans may not need to rely solely on mods and older games for much longer, as the next game in the space shooter franchise may be in the works. As was highlighted by user Com_Raven on Reddit, Disney (the company that owns the Star Wars IP) may be looking for a development partner for Star Wars: Battlefront 3. Among the potential studios for that rumored project are Bungie and DICE, as per the report. The information was showcased in a Giant Bomb podcast featuring host Jeff Grubb and X Button’s Seth Macy. While there hasn’t been much of a discussion around the release date for Star Wars: Battlefront 3, the conversation about a potential development partner for the project makes it feel more real than ever before. Not only that, but the fact that Disney is looking towards shooter veterans in the industry may be a good sign for what the game could be. Of course, DICE was responsible for the 2017 Star Wars: Battlefront 2, which was not the success the company had hoped for. Bungie, on the other hand, is the studio behind the Destiny franchise, as well as the creators of the Halo series. This studio, in particular, has been going through some rough times over the past few decades. Amidst multiple layoffs over the years and the acquisition by PlayStation, which resulted in the underwhelming Marathon this year, the future of Bungie at PlayStation is a bit unclear – however, a development project the size of Star Wars: Battlefront 3 could sound promising for both the game itself and the studio. The rumors mention that no deal has been struck with any one studio so far. However, DICE and Bungie are allegedly the main studios interested in taking up the project, according to the rumors. For now, all of this should be taken with a grain of salt. The information stems from a gossip column on Electronic Gaming Monthly, written by Quartermann (a pseudonymous persona for rumors at EGM). The prospect of Star Wars: Battlefront 3 seems exciting, especially if it works on all of what was criticized during the previous game’s launch. Users writing in response to the Reddit thread have also shown some excitement, even if there is some caution. User MacklinOfficial, for instance, states that they “refuse to get my hopes up, but this report seems like it may just have some teeth into it.” Another user, BOfficeStats, expresses what they think may be best for the sequel. “The best case for a Battlefront 3 would be if it skipped the campaign, but they included a major PvE component,” says the Redditor. To other users, it’s a surprise the game’s development hasn’t started. Considering how much backlash the previous game received, it’s quite a surprise that Disney would even consider working on Star Wars: Battlefront 3, but it seems it may be envisioning something big for the future.
