Star Trek’s OG Character Change Makes Strange New Worlds Season 4 Even More Important

Spock Is A Totally Different Character In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Of all the show’s inventive reinterpretations of existing characters from Star Trek: The Original Series, it is Ethan Peck’s take on Spock that truly justifies the lengthy run of Strange New Worlds. Although Spock was famously stoic and almost emotionless in The Original Series, thanks to the Vulcan side of his heritage, Peck’s more vulnerable and empathetic take on the character is a version of Spock who has not yet tamed his human side. Strange New Worlds Has To Transform Spock To Set Up The Original Series From his surprising romantic relationship with Nurse Christine Chapel to his complex friendship and rivalry with Anson Mount’s doomed Captain Christopher Pike, Spock is nothing like his original screen incarnation in Strange New Worlds. Except that’s not quite true, since Peck’s performance also still manages to mirror many of the memorable mannerisms that made Leonard Nimoy’s Spock an instantly recognizable icon, albeit with more emotional involvement. While it is fun to see this new side of Spock explored in the show, Strange New Worlds season 4’s story inevitably has to set up the version of the character that viewers know and love. The closer the show’s timeline gets to the beginning of The Original Series, the more Spock’s older, more mature self needs to bear a closer resemblance to Nimoy’s original incarnation of the character. Spock will likely transform into his more logical, emotionless self throughout this outing and the following season, becoming the Spock viewers recognize from The Original Series by the end of the show. However, this is unlikely to be a painless transition, since Spock has established some very human relationships already in seasons 1-3.
