Initially starting with Stargazers for fans of Deep Space Nine and BL, the new wave of stories is now joined by the latest new series from a lifelong Trek fan born into a family passionate about the iconic sci-fi property. But instead of romance and conspiracy across the Promenade and beyond of Deep Space Nine, New York Times best-selling creator Sam Maggs injects a good deal more tension and intrigue to create an airtight thriller for this new series. Titled Recollection: A Star Trek Story, this new series on Webtoon lives up to its title due to the passengers aboard the Good Hope waking up with no memories, not even of their names. With the protagonist being the first to wake up and find the others, the series follows the appropriately-named Early as she and her unexpected crew navigate supply shortages, limited life support, and life-threatening emergencies. The series, as is typical of new Webtoon releases to gather momentum, dropped three free episodes to read online, with five more under a limited-time paywall, for a total of 40 planned installments as the mystery of the Good Hope, and its purpose, unfolds. Star Trek Has Dropped The First Installments Of A New 40-Episode Thriller Early has little to work with in Recollection: A Star Trek Story, beyond being clearly handy to the point of being a possible Starfleet Engineer before her memory loss incident. In fact, the entire crew has plenty of background that's engaging to theorize about as the story develops, introducing fellow characters such as the following: Accel, a human with somewhat rakish traits and a tendency to mouth off and cut others off when speaking Remembrance or "Remy", an Aenar who quickly takes initiative in helping others claim temporary names, with her quickly becoming a voice of reason Dizzy or "Diz", a Trill with no access to her symbiont's memories, making her something of a wild card Tank, an Orion whose strike first, think later mentality is innately easier to trust The Dean, a well-spoken Skerr quickly labeled for his erudite traits, with what resembles a monocle that doubles as a viewing device with uncertain contents JAID, the holopilot controlling the ship to a limited extent, who acts as a guide to the group A mysterious unnamed Vulcan met on a market stop who gives Early a nondescript isolinear chip that seems to be linked to her placement on the ship With JAID in particular, the use of a hologram among the main characters gives off certain Star Trek: Voyager vibes for fans of the Doctor. But in the case of the Good Hope, it's one crisis after another, first with less than half an hour of supplies for their survival and intentionally limited replicator food options until Early does some much-needed tampering, before a mysterious stop to resupply and refuel. But what turns Recollections: A Star Trek Story from a quirky Among Us comic in the strange new worlds of Gene Roddenberry, into a fascinating, potentially spicy thriller, is in the remaining chapters once the passengers come back aboard. A near-death incident involving one passenger almost getting spaced via a door malfunction immediately gets Early suspecting each of her crewmates, particularly JAID after revelations that the hologram doesn't control all functions of the ship. But with no clear answers in sight, readers are welcome to speculate all while bonds form and/or deteriorate with each passing week. Recollection Will Release New Episodes Every Monday As confirmed via the official Webtoon portal for Recollection: A Star Trek Story, new episodes will drop weekly. With 40 episodes planned, this should place enough Star Trek webtoon content, alongside Jarrett Melendez's Stargazers, on the platform going into March 2027. With both series bringing different aspects of Star Trek to entirely new audiences and being available to longtime fans, this latest new series bolsters even more of the franchise's multifaceted, multi-generational appeal. While Stargazers brings Deep Space Nine worldbuilding as well as endearing romance of its own, Recollection goes pretty hard on the mystery and suspense elements quickly. But make no mistake: within the first chapters, fans will easily notice the Han Solo-level scoundrel charms of Accel and how he quickly creates an almost impenetrably unserious defense of any poor choices of words of his. Meanwhile, Remy and Early also have plenty of fascinating romantic tension as well, creating a love triangle as the passengers navigate crises, live off replicated burgers, and figure out how to work as a team to survive, or die unable to remember their names. Star Trek's new series may not be a conventional addition to its growing catalog of new and limited streaming options, but it remains nonetheless a fun and authentic addition for those seeking something by the fans, for the fans.
