Star SEC quarterback will miss rest of season due to injury

By Thomas Lagrone | tlagrone@al.comMississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor will miss the rest of the season due to a toe injury that will require surgery, ESPN’s Pete Thamel is reporting. Thamel also said that Taylor could have surgery as early as tomorrow, and he is expected to make a full recovery. Taylor has been one of the best quarterbacks in the league this season, as he threw for at least three touchdowns in each of his first five starts. The highly talented player suffered a toe injury against Missouri, which was his fourth start of the year. Taylor was able to play in Mississippi State’s next game against Alabama, but he left the game early in the fourth quarter. After missing Mississippi State’s next game against LSU, Taylor tried to return for last week’s game against Oklahoma. However, Taylor was unable to throw more than five passes before leaving the game. Thamel reported that Taylor pushed hard to play after the initial injury, but it was clear that he was not 100% in the ensuing games. Taylor’s injury clearly impacted his play, as he was much less effective on the ground. Prior to the Missouri game, Taylor had rushed for 178 yards and a touchdown. After the Missouri game, Taylor has rushed for -28 yards. 2026 Georgia high school volleyball state finals: GHSA tournament schedule and where to watch2026 Alabama high school volleyball state finals: AHSAA tournament schedule and where to watchHow to watch Utah-Houston college football game for free tonightHow to watch Ole Miss-Texas college football game for free tonightHow to watch Colorado-Oklahoma State college football game for free tonightThomas Lagrone is an Alabama native and recent graduate from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a bachelor's degree in sports communication.
