Star of hit Netflix romcom addresses rumours of cast ‘tension’ after free Palestine row

Comments by actor Adam Brody have led to reports of a rift between the cast of the Netflix series (Picture: Netflix/Getty Images) A star of the Netflix television romance Nobody Wants This has hit back at reports of ‘rising tension’ between the cast. In an interview in September, actor Adam Brody, 46, expressed his support for a free Palestine, describing the ongoing conflict as a ‘genocide.’ ‘Put me down as wanting a free Palestine,’ he answered when asked his opinion on the topic. His co-star on the show, Tovah Feldshuh, 77, subsequently responded by saying that it was ‘right out of Hitler’s playbook’ to ‘accuse the Jewish people of genocide.’ This exchange has led to speculation of rising tension among the Nobody Wants This cast, where Feldshuh plays Brody’s mother. However, the actress has shut down these rumours, which she’s downplayed as ‘profound differences of opinion.’ Adam Brody’s position has put him at odds with the show’s creator and some of his co-stars(Picture: Shutterstock) Tovah Feldshuh has denied rumours of a rift between the castPicture: Shutterstock) Responding to a Threads post by user Azat Television, Feldshuh wrote: ‘Tensions are NOT RISING.’ She continued: ‘Profound differences of opinion are. Please do not conflate the two —And none of it will be brought to the set.’ She signed off the post by adding that she ‘deeply enjoys’ filming Nobody Wants This, and shared her hope for a fourth season of the show. In it, she plays Bina Roklov, mother to Jewish rabbi Noah (Brody). Tensions arise between mother and son when he begins dating non-Jewish podcaster Joanne (Kristen Bell), throwing his prospects as a senior rabbi into doubt. In the third season, the families are on a more even keel, with Joanne and Noah having just moved into their first home together. I haven’t spoken much about it publicly,’ he replied, when asked about his own thoughts. He then added: ‘Put me down as thinking it’s a genocide. Put me down as wanting a free Palestine. ‘It’s awful that it’s taken so much death and misery, but it does feel like it’s reaching a breaking point that it should have a while ago.’ He went on to share his hope that a future administration could ‘correct some of these policies that are helping that situation be as awful as it is.’ Feldshuh plays Noah’s mother, the formidable Bina (Picture: Netflix) In a subsequent interview with The New York Post, Feldshuh described Brody’s position as ‘wild.’ ‘You take the victim and you make the victim the perpetrator,’ she continued, sharing he belief that the existence of Israel is ‘crucial to the well-being of the democratic world and of the free world. ‘Of course, Israel needs the United States, [but] the United States needs Israel, believe you me,’ she added. On working with Brody on Nobody Wants This, she said: ‘My job, as Bina but also as Tovah, is to love the people on set at my place of work, to be kind.’ She described herself to be ‘thrilled and proud’ to play the Jewish matriarch. Her strategy when it comes to differences of opinion, she said, is to ‘switch channels and do my job.’ Series creator Erin Foster has also weighed in (Picture: Getty Images) Meanwhile, Erin Foster, the show’s creator, has described the situation as ‘complicated.’ ‘I think our work environment, our set is very similar to dinner tables around the world where people are having debate and discussion and disagreeing,’ she said on her Skinny Not Fat podcast. ‘While I love Adam, I also disagree with him, and that’s okay,’ she continued, before describing the show as a ‘love letter to Judaism.’ ‘That is why I made this show. It’s because of how beautiful of an experience I’ve had becoming Jewish and being a Jewish person, and sitting here right now at this time in the world where there is almost zero positive representation of Jewish people, I think it’s so important to have that,’ she said. ‘That being said, everyone is entitled to a different opinion than me. I can just tell you what I created this show for, what the intention of the show is.’ Series three of Nobody Wants This is streaming now on Netflix UK.
