Srisailam temple aims to plant 5,000 saplings before end of monsoon

Srinivasa Rao and others take part in the plantation drive at Srisailam on Tuesday. | Photo Credit: BY ARRANGEMENT Srisailam Temple Trust Board chairman Pothugunta Ramesh Naidu has said that they have decided to take up a massive tree plantation drive within the temple premises as part of environmental conservation efforts. A target has been set to plant at least 5,000 saplings before the end of the current monsoon season. Mr. Ramesh Naidu, along with temple executive officer M. Srinivasa Rao, several board members, and special invitees, participated in the plantation drive near the local Zilla Parishad High School. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ramesh Naidu said that a large-scale plantation drive had been initiated within the temple area.The Trust Board chairman said plans have been made to extensively plant saplings in open spaces and gardens maintained by the temple. He added that tree guards would be installed for the planted saplings wherever necessary and that a decision had been taken to plant more saplings along both sides of the ring road.Meanwhile, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said that more ornamental plants would be planted in the temple gardens. He emphasised that special care would be taken to nurture the planted saplings and that shade-bearing trees would be planted in open areas. The plantation drive was initiated following a Ganapati puja. Later, Vruksha puja was performed, and sapling varieties such as Kadamba, Tamarind, Banyan, Neem, White Arjun (Tella Maddi), Bauhinia, and Spathodea were planted.
