The new Spidey flick releases in theaters this week, and projections have it pulling Avengers-level box office numbers in its opening weekend. According to Global Box Office, an account dedicated to tracking movie ticket sales and accurately projecting how much those movies will make based on those numbers, Brand New Day is on track to make $800 million. Not by the time it’s finished in theaters, just in its opening weekend. If that number ends up being anywhere close to correct, then the upcoming Spidey movie will have the second biggest opening weekend in history. Only one film has ever done better, and that film was Avengers: Endgame. Endgame also remains the only movie to make more than $1 billion in a single weekend. That record will remain intact unless Brand New Day can really outdo itself and generate more than $1.2 billion this weekend. The silver medal position is currently held by Avengers: Infinity War with $640 million. The ending to that blockbuster was so impactful that twice as many people felt compelled to go and see Endgame as soon as it hit theaters a year later. In third, there’s the last live-action Spider-Man movie, No Way Home. The tease of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield getting back into their Spidey suits to team with Tom Holland earned Marvel and Disney $600 million in one weekend.
