Spider-Man: Brand New Day closing in on Avatar 2 in unprecedented box office run

Tom Holland's Spider-Man: Brand New Day is on the verge of a rare box-office feat. After holding strong through its fourth weekend, the Marvel superhero film is now closing in on a place among the three highest-grossing films in cinema history. Its next target is James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water, and surpassing the 2022 blockbuster would mark a significant shift in the all-time global rankings.The film has continued its run without a major new release, threatening its momentum in the coming week. According to Box Office Mojo, after 22 days in theatres, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has grossed $2.22 billion worldwide. It is now within striking distance of Titanic ($2.26 billion), Ne Zha 2 ($2.27 billion) and, most importantly, Avatar: The Way of Water ($2.33 billion).If its current run continues, the Tom Holland-led film is expected to move past all three titles and claim the No. 3 position on the all-time worldwide box-office chart. It would then sit behind only Avatar ($2.92 billion) and Avengers: Endgame ($2.79 billion).While overtaking Avatar: The Way of Water is within reach, the top two spots remain considerably farther away. For now, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has another milestone in sight as it continues its record-setting theatrical run. The film is currently the highest-grossing release of 2026, although that position could change later this year with the arrival of Avengers: Doomsday.
