The Mexican-style fast-food chain is partnering with the mobile language learning platform Duolingo to release Duo Habanero Sauce for National Taco Day on Oct. 6. The limited-edition offering is a tangy, fruity sauce with habanero heat available at participating Taco Bell locations in the U.S., Canada, Australia, China, India, Spain and the U.K. while supplies last. The sauce packets feature taco-themed sayings printed in nine languages: English, Spanish, French, Hindi, Portuguese, German, Korean, Mandarin and Japanese. In the U.S., customers can get one free packet with the purchase of a Doritos Locos Taco, with additional packets available for $0.20 each.“National Taco Day is about more than just food,” said Luis Restrepo, chief marketing officer of Taco Bell North America. “The fact that ‘taco’ is understood in more than 30 languages proves just how universal it is, and together with Duolingo, we’re turning that shared language into an invitation for even more fans to join the Global Taco Day celebration.”Taco Bell Rewards members can also claim one free month of Super Duolingo, a paid subscription for the language app, through Oct. 6, with codes redeemable through Nov. 15.“Language and food are two of the most powerful ways we connect with culture and with each other,” said Emmanuel Orssaud, chief marketing officer of Duolingo. “Taco is a rare word that travels easily across cultures, making it a fun starting point for getting people curious about language.”The collaboration continues a pattern of Taco Bell using National Taco Day to make a broader statement. In 2022, the chain introduced a month-long taco subscription. In 2023, it worked to free the phrase “Taco Tuesday” from trademark restrictions. In 2024, it partnered with National Day Calendar to move the holiday to the first Tuesday in October.Brandon Champion is a National Trending Reporter for Advance Local based in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
