(Photos: vijaylakshmimallya3/instagram)New Delhi,Nov 3, 2026 09:46 ISTImagine boarding a flight after hours of delays, sitting through the safety briefing and then being told to get off because the aircraft won't take off. That was the ordeal actor Vijay Lakshmi Mallya described while lying on the tarmac after SpiceJet cancelled its Gorakhpur to Mumbai flight on November 1.Sharing a video on Instagram, she said, “Maine life mein kabhi aisa nahi socha tha ki main plane ke neeche aise leti rahungi (I never imagined I would have to lie like this under an aircraft),” before panning the camera to show other passengers waiting on the tarmac. Some were seated, while others stood around as they waited for the airline to resolve the situation. The incident involved SpiceJet flight SG 553 that had faced several delays throughout the day, but passengers were eventually allowed to board. They were briefed on the safety procedures, giving them reason to believe the aircraft was finally ready for departure. Yet, even after boarding, the plane remained on the ground.Watch the video here: Passengers were kept inside the aircraft for nearly an hour before the airline called off the flight. The reason given was Mumbai airport’s 8 pm landing restriction window. With the aircraft unable to reach Mumbai within the permitted time, the operation was cancelled, leaving passengers to deal with the disruption after hours of waiting.Vijay Lakshmi shared more footage of the chaos, including a video recorded while she was getting off the aircraft. She said passengers had been asked to deboard only after completing the boarding process.“Ye meri life mein pehli baar ho raha hai ki boarding ke baad hum logon ko bataya ja raha hai ki flight khaali karo (This is the first time in my life that I have been told to leave the aircraft after boarding)," she said. She also questioned the explanation of the airport’s operating restrictions, saying she was familiar with late-night flights to and from Gorakhpur.“Main khud Gorakhpur ki hoon aur maine bahut baar raat ko flight se travel kiya hai. Ye toh unprofessional hai, ye possible hi nahi hai, ye bahut galat hai (I am from Gorakhpur myself and have travelled by flight at night many times. This is unprofessional, this is simply not possible, and this is very wrong)," she said.Watch the video here:The videos captured passengers’ frustration as they were made to wait, board and then leave an aircraft that never took off. The incident has gone viral on social media platforms and drew the ire of users. Many pointed out how SpiceJet has continued to deteriorate in service. SpiceJet has remained under scrutiny for several such instances and recently, a passenger travelling from Mumbai detailed his bizarre story of missing a SpiceJet flight even after he arrived 2 hours before the departure time.- Ends
