Spelunky 2 Mod Adds Everything From Spelunky HD, Available Now

After Five Years, An Impressive Mod That Remakes All Of Spelunky In Spelunky 2 Is Finally Out Image from HDMod. This hands-on experience lets him dive into gaming communities and follow the latest trends. Some of the games George has extensively covered first-hand include Dead Rising, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and Ninja Gaiden 4. An incredible Spelunky 2 mod that remakes and expands on the entirety of the first game is finally available after being in the works for the past five years. If there’s one game in the world that I consider absolutely perfect, no notes, it’s the original Spelunky (or Spelunky HD if you want to be specific). Derek Yu created a true masterpiece of roguelite design with Spelunky, and it’s a game that I’ve sunk far more hours into across many different platforms than I’d care to admit. Despite adding a ton to the original game’s formula and overall being a legendary game, I didn’t end up clicking with Spelunky 2 nearly as much as the original. So, I’m very happy to report that an impressive mod that remakes all of the first game in the sequel’s beefed-up engine and gives us the best of both worlds is finally available after more than five years. HDMod Remakes The Original Spelunky In The Sequel’s Engine, And It’s Out Now Truly One Of The Best Mods I’ve Ever Seen The mod in question is fittingly called HDMod, and it’s been being worked on by a dedicated team of modders for the past five years. As the name suggests, HDMod remakes every single level, enemy, weapon, feature, and more from Spelunky HD and gets it working within Spelunky 2, essentially combining the two games. Everything we loved from Spelunky HD is back and better than ever, from the iconic prologue to the shortcuts and specific character unlocks. The trailer even makes it clear that Spelunky 2’s signature liquid physics are in play for the original game’s levels, which should add a whole new level of challenge. All of that somehow still feels like an understatement of the work that’s gone into the mod, though, as it comes with brand new sprites and sound effects, new story elements, a whole new soundtrack with original tracks, and even adds a new achievement system for the post-game. I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but it basically takes Spelunky to a whole new level. I’ve covered some impressive mods in my time, but HDMod might be the new cream of the crop, and something that’s making buying Spelunky 2 for the third time incredibly tempting. Massive props to the talented team behind it.
