FORMER British Champion Chris Harris and rival Ben Barker are in a STAMPING row after an ugly on-track brawl. The Glasgow star clashed with his old team-mate and fellow Cornishman during their Cab Direct Championship fixture at The Coliseum in Devon on Tuesday night. It became more heated as Harris turned his bike across Barker sending him crashing to the ground. Harris was then dragged away from the scene by mechanics. Some fans have suggested on social media that Harris stamped on his rival. But Harris, nicknamed ‘Bomber’ for his daredevil racing style, said: “Just to clear up the incident at Plymouth. “I wasn’t going to comment on what happened after the race, but after seeing some of the comments and conclusions being drawn from the TV footage, I feel I need to clear one thing up. Fact: I did not stamp on him. “After the race, Ben deliberately came round to confront me and threatened to put me in the fence. Before I had the chance, the mechanics intervened. “The opinion: I stamped on Ben. The fact: I did NOT stamp on him. At any point. “The TV footage only shows the incident from one camera angle, and I understand why that angle may give people the wrong impression. “What you are actually seeing is me trying to free my trapped foot, clear my own bike and step over his bike to help — not stamping on the rider. “Another camera angle would have shown a very different perspective of what happened. He said: “Chris and Ben are good mates and they have sorted it out. “It was just hard riding in the race and nothing bad. “These things happen in speedway, these guys are putting their necks on the line.” The Speedway Control Bureau have confirmed neither rider will be fined for the incident.
