File photo | Photo Credit: VIBHU H A special drive to include all eligible voters in the electoral rolls will be held across Palakkad district from October 15 to 31, District Collector Sudhir K. said here on Monday. The drive will cover all 12 Assembly constituencies in the district. Digital assistance centres will function at all village offices, including on holidays, to help people apply for inclusion in the voters’ list. The Collector said applicants need to submit only Form 6 online, as the additional declaration form previously required was dropped. Applications can be filed through the Citizen Service Portal or the Voter Helpline app. Applicants must upload a photograph and one of the prescribed documents to prove their age and address. Those submitting Aadhaar as address proof must provide one additional document, he said.Booth-level officers will conduct home visits to verify applications. Officials will compare earlier electoral rolls with the current lists to identify eligible voters who were left out. The draft electoral roll published on December 23, 2025, contained 21,41,276 voters, compared with 23,31,567 in the roll used before the special intensive revision (SIR) began on October 27, 2025.A total of 1,90,291 names were left out of the draft list because enumeration forms had not been returned. Of these, 1,86,258 people were reported to have died, moved, remained untraceable or registered elsewhere. The remaining 4,033 had not submitted forms for other reasons, he said. The final electoral roll published on February 21, 2026, contained 22,53,073 voters, an increase of 1,11,797 from the draft list. The final roll was used for the 2026 general election. The new drive will check whether any eligible voters omitted from earlier lists remain excluded. Officials will also collect death records from local bodies and details of people who surrendered their Indian passports after giving up citizenship, to verify and update the rolls. The drive will focus on enrolling everyone who has turned 18 and is eligible to vote. Under the ‘from campus to booth’ initiative, colleges and higher secondary schools will organise enrolment activities for students for a week from November 2, under the message ‘come forward, be counted’. Electoral literacy clubs will help students understand voter registration and election procedures.Applicants must submit documents to establish their identity, age and ordinary residence. Accepted documents include a birth certificate, passport, PAN card, educational certificates, driving licence, ration card, bank or post office passbook, recent utility bills and government-issued residence documents, subject to the applicable requirements. Mr. Sudhir urged people to use the drive to ensure their names are included in the electoral roll. Published - October 13, 2026 06:01 pm IST
