Sparks Announce First-Ever Live Album, Live on The Moon

For the first time in their 57-plus-year career, Sparks are set to release an official live album. Spanning a robust 20 tracks, Live on The Moon is due out August 14th via Transgressive. According to the band, Sparks’ Ron and Russell Mael followed up their 2025 world tour by performing on the Moon. (And not, say, Mimas or Europa.) Playing to a sold-out crowd at the Taruntius Crater near Mare Fecunditatis, Sparks delivered a career-spanning set alongside their live band of guitarists Eli Pearl and Evan Weiss, bassist Max Whipple, and drummer Darren Weiss. The setlist included “Running Up a Tab at the Hotel for the Fab,” “The Number One Song in Heaven,” “Drowned in a Sea of Tears,” and “The Girl Is Crying in Her Latte.” In a statement, Sparks said, “Honored to be the first band to perform on The Moon, let alone at the beautiful Taruntius Crater. We couldn’t have imagined the lunar fan interest, with all tickets being grabbed up within an hour, Coordinated Lunar Time (CLT). Thank you, Moon!” And if a lunar concert wasn’t already enough of a hook, Sparks also tapped Cate Blanchett to entertain them during the long journey to The Moon. Added Sparks, “What a riot Cate was on the mission’s four-day flight, helping us pass the time with hours of gravitational-pull jokes and the like!” Below, check out two songs, “Lord Have Mercy (Live On The Moon)” and “Whippings and Apologies (Live on the Moon).” Both tunes fully capture the singular joy, magic, and energy of a Sparks live show (on The Moon or otherwise).
