Spain’s Mediapro Group To Become Imagina After Reorganization

Spain‘s Grup Mediapro will relaunch as Imagina on January 1, 2027, following a major company review. The decision to relaunch comes after “several months of reorganization” and was announced internally yesterday at an all-staff meeting. “The change revives a name the group has used before across its more than 30-year history, reflecting its intent to look ahead while staying grounded in its past,” the company said in a note to press. Imagina was previously the parent company of Mediapro, following the latter’s 2006 merger with producer Globomedia. The news follows a tumultuous 2026 for the Spanish sports media and entertainment giant, during which it cut 189 staff. Senior execs such as General Manager Laura Fernández Espeso, The Mediapro Studio’s international content chief, Ran Tellem, and business chief Miguel Cardenal all left. Watch on Deadline Mediapro’s new management, Executive Chairman Sergio Oslé and CEO Carlos Núñez, said the company expects EBITDA to grow between 50% and 60% against 2025, along with positive cash flow generation. This was thanks to the company-wide review that took place over the first months of 2026 and ultimately “brought its resources in line with today’s market realities.” “The next step is to drive new projects that deliver unique experiences to audiences around the world, funding this growth with more than €100 million [$116 million] the company itself will generate over the next three years,” the company stated. Oslé and Nũnez were installed following the departures of founding partners Jaume Roures and Tatxo Benet. They are now presiding over a business that handles production of numerous major sporting events, sells broadcast rights to the likes of Spain’s La Liga outside of North America, MENA and India, and has a content production unit that is behind the likes of The Head. Southwind Media Capital, which is part of China’s Orient Hontai Capital, owns Mediapro, which has its main offices in Madrid and Barcelona. Southwind bought a majority stake in February 2018, with former bosses Roures and Benet retaining minority stakes.
