In the Trump 2.0 era of U.S. politics, the long-running animated series created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone has regularly mocked White House officials, including Trump himself, as well as J.D. Vance, Pete Hegseth, Kristi Noem, and Karoline Leavitt. The brutal takedowns have gone viral on social media and made numerous headlines. Now it's happening all over again. The series just won Outstanding Animated Program at the Creative Arts Emmys for "Sermon on the 'Mount," an episode that centers on Trump's presidency. The official account of South Park basked in the win with a poster promoting season 29 that shows Trump holding an Emmy Award alongside a message that reads, "You Finally Got Your Emmy." It earned eight nominations, including for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program in 2004 and 2005, but lost to The Amazing Race both times. Trump has made it no secret how angry he is that his show never won and has claimed the Emmys are rigged and that politics drove the voters' decisions. "Sermon on the 'Mount," the episode that South Park just won at the Emmys, aired in July 2025, with reports indicating at the time that Trump was furious over South Park's depiction of his administration. The White House went so far as to release an official response to the episode, with Assistant Press Secretary Taylor Rogers claiming that South Park hasn't been relevant in years and that the show has hit record-low ratings. Those claims have been proven false, as South Park's focus on current political events has made it highly relevant in the political comedy world and on social media, and viewership is the highest it's been in several years. At this year's Creative Arts Emmys, South Park was nominated in three categories. For Outstanding Animated Program, it won against Bob's Burgers, Rick and Morty, The Simpsons, Smiling Friends, and Star Wars: Visions. In the category of Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance, Parker lost to Bridgerton's Julie Andrews, and for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics, Parker lost to Gavin Brivik and Andrew Bird for The Pitt. South Park has been nominated for Outstanding Animated Program numerous times over the years and won in 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2013.
