‘South Park’ changes name to ‘South America’, mocking Apple and Google for kowtowing to Trump

The creators of South Park have mocked Donald Trump yet again after changing the name of the animated show to South America. The series, which airs on Paramount+ in the UK, has aimed most of its jokes in recent seasons at the US President with storylines depicting him in a relationship with Satan, having a micro penis, and having sex with Vice President J.D. Vance. After winning the Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program earlier this week Trey Parker and Matt Stone, posted a graphic with Trump clutching an Emmy trophy with his pants and underwear around his ankles with the message: “You finally got your Emmy.” The post appeared to mock the US President’s own track record on Emmy victories after he was previously nominated for the US version of The Apprentice for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program in 2004 and 2005, but failed to win. Now, they have shared a new post ahead of the show’s 29th season, stating: “Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to SOUTH AMERICA. We especially want to thank our parent company Paramount – a Skydance Capitulation.” Their statement is a direct dig at Trump for issuing orders to change names of major geographic bodies to include America in the name. Most recently he announced that his administration would now be referring to Lake Ontario as Lake America following a trade dispute with Canada, while he also shared a video on social media which indicated New Mexico could soon become New America.Recommended Previously, Trump declared that the Gulf of Mexico would now be the Gulf of America, with Google and Apple reflecting the changes on their maps apps. The creators of South Park recently said they initially intended to stop mocking Trump after one episode, but kept going after the pushback they received. Last July, The White House hit back at the animated series, saying in a statement at the time: “This show hasn’t been relevant for over 20 years”. According to Trey Parker and Matt Stone, it was this reaction that inspired them to continue. “We were just going to do that first show with the Trump stuff,” Parker said (via The Hollywood Reporter). “We laid into him so hard, and the thing became: ‘Well, who’s the bully now?’ It became this just totally juvenile joke of like, ‘We’re not gonna stop. We’re going to do it every single week.’” He continued: “Even when everyone’s like, ‘OK, guys, move on,’ [we’re] like, ‘Nope, we’re not moving on. We’re going to keep going, going, going.’ That became the joke.” The new season of South Park is set to land on Comedy Central in the US and Paramount+ in the UK on September 16.
