South Carolina reserve DB out for Week 2 vs. Towson

South Carolina remains a remarkably healthy football team heading into its Week 2 matchup with Towson this Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium. The Gamecocks came out of the Week 1 blowout win over Kent State unscathed, while star players Jacarrius Peak and Dylan Stewart are marching towards a return. “I’d say we’re getting closer and closer to clearing a couple that everybody wants to know about,” Beamer said, referring to Peak and Stewart. “They both had good weeks. And really, other than that, Jalewis Solomon, one of our reserve defensive backs, got banged up in practice yesterday a little bit. He won’t play this week, but outside of that, we’re in good shape.” Solomon did not play in the Gamecocks’ season opener. After providing an extensive update on Peak and Stewart during his Tuesday press conference, Beamer added a couple of quick notes on them on Thursday. “Won’t play this week,” Beamer said. “No setbacks. Progress is going great.” Beamer had said on Tuesday that both players practiced in pads for the first time earlier that day. Questions about this story? Wes Mitchell is discussing it with subscribers on The Insiders Forum. “Peak and Stewart were in full pads today and practiced, so they’re getting closer and closer, so it’s a tough day for all the conspiracy theorists who thought that we were hiding something and they weren’t going to play this season across the country — none of y’all,” Beamer said. “But those guys were out there today, and they actually had contact today.” “Optimistic [about] what that injury report is going to say next week when we have to release it before our first SEC game,” he added. “Proud of those guys.” Beamer previously announced that wide receiver Jackson Repp is out for the season and that offensive tackle Josiah Thompson is also likely out for the year. Wide receivers Jayden Sellers and Jayden Gibson were also lost for the year during preseason camp. South Carolina is set to host Towson at 7 p.m. this Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium, with SEC Network Plus carrying the broadcast. What do you think?
