South Carolina comes away injury-free after shutout win over Kent State

In what was the hottest-ever game at Williams-Brice Stadium, South Carolina came out of a 57-0 win over Kent State in great shape from an injury standpoint. By kickoff, the temperature had already soared to 95 degrees, quickly making it the hottest home game on record. It only got hotter from there as the afternoon went along and the crowd thinned out. “Hottest game in the history of the football program, and we had no one cramping,” head coach Shane Beamer said after the game. “We had no issues like that. We came out of it healthy. That’s a kudos to the young men in our program, and then all the people in our program that do their job at a high level.” The Gamecocks have already dealt with their share of injuries leading into the season. Wide receivers Jayden Sellers and Jayden Gibson are both out for the year due to lower-body injuries. EDGE Dylan Stewart and offensive tackle Jacarrius Peak are working their way back from their own injuries. What does this mean for the Gamecocks? Nyck Harbor briefly exited in the second quarter after hitting his helmet against a Kent State player’s helmet, but he would eventually return for the start of the second half. “Yeah, Nyck’s fine,” Beamer said. “I think he got hit somewhere on the shoulder or neck or something like that. He was just sore for a minute, but he’s fine.” Harbor finished his day with five catches for 70 yards. South Carolina will be back at home next Saturday, Sept. 12, when it hosts Towson.
