Sony State of Play September 2026: Every Big Reveal and Trailer

Published Sep 3, 2026, 10:09 AM EDT September's State of Play revealed more about Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, Crimson Desert, and more Every big announcement from Sony's State of Play Image: Square Enix Sony's new State of Play gave us a look at the PlayStation 5 lineup for the rest of the year and heading into 2027. There were some surprises, like Konami's jazzy new game Rhapsody in Scarlet and Maneater 2, along with some welcome updates (Until Dawn 2 is looking a lot more interesting). And it closed out with one of the showcase's now-typical deep-dives into a spotlight game — Final Fantasy 7 Revelation this time. FF7 Revelation has a release date now, too. We've rounded up every announcement from the September 2026 State of Play below, including all the trailers. Zach Cregger's Resident Evil kicked things off The video games showcase began with a movie trailer, another look at Zach Cregger's Resident Evil movie. The hero of the piece pops out of a sewer, quips in a way that'd make Leon Kennedy jealous, and starts to run away from a bunch of zombies throwing themselves off roofs in an attempt to hit him. Not the most efficient method of murder, but when the brains are all rotted mush, you have to lower your expectations. One last look at Marvel's Wolverine Wolverine is out soon, but Insomniac turned up with a movie-style trailer, mostly covering the game's story though with a few action-y scenes tossed in for good measure. Ghost of Yōtei gets a survival mode Sucker Punch is adding Most Wanted to Ghost of Yōtei, a single-player survival mode that sees Atsu progress as far as possible along a series of hunts earning perks and other bonuses for new runs. Nagato, Jin, and Oyuki can join in, too. Yes, it's basically Naughty Dog's roguelike mode from The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. It, along with Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition, is out Oct. 1. Finally, a Monster Hunter Rise Ascendance trailer Capcom teased Monster Hunter Wilds' Ascendance DLC months ago, but now we finally get to see it. The hunter and co. find themselves in a new civilization above the clouds that they navigate with their totally-not-chocobo mounts. The ecosystems are transforming, and while we don't get to see what that means in practical terms, it has some ind of effect on the world's monsters above and below the clouds. Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance is out sometime in 2027. New Metro 2039 gameplay Following a short glimpse at Metro 2039 during Gamescom, 4A games is back with a lengthy trailer showing off part of a quest. Metro 2039 is out on Feb. 4. Maneater 2 emerges from the depths You're a rampaging shark swimming around the ocean and theme parks. It's a lot like the first Maneater, but now you can mutate into an even weirder shark. Maneater 2 is out in 2027. A new look at Crimson Desert's DLC Pearl Abyss showed up with a look at Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown, an expansion out Oct. 15. It's more Crimson Desert, with more things to do like sailing ships, building homes, and making romance. There's an ocean and a really big monster down there, too. Final Fantasy Resonance demo announced Square Enix popped up with another look at Final Fantasy Resonance and reminded everyone it's an HD-2D game, a first for the series. The trailer also showed off a fight against Sephiroth, and there's a demo available later today. New Gundam game, Rogue Orbit, has a release date now I couldn't tell one Gundam from another and have no idea what's happening here, but as an Armored Core-like action game, Rogue Orbit looks pretty sick. Gundam: Rogue Orbit is out on March 5. Hunter's Moon kicks off a witch hunt in time for Halloween The brief, evocative trailer opens with a folk song, before switching to a first-person view of someone running through the woods as people mutter ominously. Someone's hunting witches, and there's a pretty strong chance that witch is you. Hunter's Moon is out on Oct. 26 Uncanyon looks like an Annapurna game Annapurna has a specific kind of brand, and Uncanyon fits it perfectly. You're a finder of lost things, but also, it seems, a putter-of-things-together. Uncanyon has you rebuilding parts of a broken world to solve puzzles and progress through a mysterious forest. It looks lovely, and it's out sometime in 2027. The original PlayStation returns in Lego form Everything's Lego these days, not that we're complaining. And now, Sony's getting in on the action with a Lego PlayStation set. Double Fine's Keeper is headed to PS5 today Freshly independent Double Fine is putting its surrealist lighthouse game Keeper on PS5, and you should definitely play it. Konami's back with more Rev Noir Konami's big anime RPG Rev Noir turned up again, but this time with a bit more gameplay. Rev Noir's action looks a bit like if Bandai's Tales of series had a baby with Wuthering Waves, and there's a smattering of unique features too. The heroes can, for example, absorb monster hearts to augment their abilities in battle. Rev Noir launches in 2027. Rhapsody in Scarlet is a new jazzy action game, also from Konami Scarlet Rhapsody was one of the more surprising reveals. It's an action-RPG set in a fantasy version of 1920s New York, and it's jazz-themed. Or the trailer was, anyway. The hero of the piece is riding around the city and other definitely-not-New-York places on fantastical creatures, which don't have a lot to do with jazz. They also pool their power for some spectacular (also not jazz) attacks. Rhapsody in Scarlet has no release date yet. Saros is getting a boss rush mode Housemarque is adding a new game plus mode to Saros and a boss rush mode called Overlord Rush, along with approachability updates, including an option to slow the game speed down. Saros' Zenith update is free and will launch later in 2026. More Gran Turismo 7 updates inbound Gran Turismo 4's Spec 4 update will add more cars and course layouts, along with family mode, a "super family-friendly" mode designed to make the game more approachable for less experienced players. There's a bunch of other features in Spec 4, but Polyphony Digital wouldn't say what they are. Until Dawn 2 gets a surprise release date A bunch of young adults are filming a reality show in Until Dawn 2, desperate to go viral. Things go terribly wrong, of course, and monsters start showing up and killing people. There's a bunch of choices that lead to various forms of misery for the people you're controlling, and it sounds like the studio audience has a role deciding what happens to the intrepid investigators. The trailer closes with someone having their skull ripped apart. Clearly, someone made the wrong choice. Until Dawn 2 is out on Jan. 28. Square Enix announces Final Fantasy 7 Revelation release date Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is out on April 8. There's a fancy new trailer showing off a lot of action, too, including some pretty sick moves from Cid and Cait Sith forgetting he's not really a cat.
