Sony Debuts Free Streaming Service With Live TV Channels

The Wrap reports that Sony is introducing an ad-supported Live TV feature on PlayStation 5 with over 100 channels that include shows like The Walking Dead, The Shield, Community, Hell's Kitchen, Fear Factor, Deal or No Deal USA, Ice Road Truckers, Unsolved Mysteries and Forensic Files. On the animated front, Naruto, Sailor Moon, Hunter x Hunter, Death Note and Crunchyroll's Black Cover are included as well. It's not just TV shows that are featured on PlayStation 5's new Live TV channels. There will also be movies from Lionsgate's MovieSphere, Sony One Horror Hits, Cinevault, FilmRise Free Movies and 50 Cent Action. Fox Sports, NASCAR, UFC and NBC Sports Now will provide sports content like MMA, football, soccer, golf, boxing, hockey and motorsports. Meanwhile, NBC News Now, LiveNOW and Fox Weather will present news coverage on their own dedicated channels. Other content that can be found on Live TV on PS5 includes Hot Ones, Spotify's The Ringer network, Idle Mode and Futcrunch, along with other specialty programming in the gaming, action sports, esports and comedy genres. PlayStation 5 users can access these free live TV channels by selecting Live TV on PS5 in the Media section. In a statement, Grace Chen, PlayStation's Vice President of Network Advertising and Loyalty & Licensed Merchandise, said that over time, Live TV on PS5 will evolve with "regularly refreshed programming, new channels and additional content." As of right now, the live TV feature is only available in the United States, but Chen acknowledged that Sony is hoping to expand it in the future to countries like Canada and other regions around the world.
