Sony Bend's Next Project Is Reportedly A Third-Person Game With Co-Op

Sony Bend Still Isn't Making Days Gone 2, But At Least It's Next Game Isn't Live-Service Published Nov 1, 2026, 11:50 AM EST George is the Lead News Editor for TheGamer, and has been working in the industry since 2021 after graduating from the University of South Wales with a bachelor's degree in Journalism. He has also previously written for RPG Site, WhatCulture, and PlayStation Lifestyle. George is an expert on platformers, action games, and fighters, but tends to play as many releases as possible. This hands-on experience lets him dive into gaming communities and follow the latest trends. Some of the games George has extensively covered first-hand include Dead Rising, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and Ninja Gaiden 4. A new report claims that Sony Bend’s next title is a third-person game with online co-op that, thank god, isn’t an inevitably doomed live-service. As anyone who has spent what feels like a lifetime waiting for Naughty Dog to release something new knows, most of PlayStation’s first-party studios have had a pretty rough generation. Alongside the increased development time and ballooning costs of triple-A games, Sony’s push for live-service has massively impacted many of its teams. Bluepoint is perhaps the best example of this since it was ultimately shuttered after the cancellation of its God of War live-service game, but Bend Studios is definitely the runner-up. Bend was another studio pushed to make a live-service game that eventually got canned, but it thankfully looks like brighter days are ahead with its next project. Bend Studio’s Next Game Will Be Revealed In 2027, And Is Further Along Than Expected It’s Not Days Gone 2, But It’s Also Not A Live-Service Earlier this week, MP1st shared a report that gives us our first proper details on what Sony Bend is currently up to. According to them, the new game is third-person and features online co-op, but notably doesn’t have any Games as a Service elements to it, unlike the cancelled “Mirror Pond” project that previously leaked. According to MP1st’s sources, the project is set to be announced at some point in 2027. The site has also heard that the game is surprisingly aiming to release that year as well, since it’s “much further along in development” than you might think, considering Bend had an entire game cancelled just last year. It’s worth noting that plans could change during development, so some live-service elements could sneak their way into the game. I doubt it, though, given the vocal backlash to Sony’s push. The report also confirms without a shadow of a doubt that the new game isn’t a sequel to Days Gone, although it’s not clear if it’s a new IP or something like a Syphon Filter revival. Bend previously tried to pitch Days Gone 2, but ultimately failed and caused the game’s surprisingly passionate fanbase to rally behind it. Even if Days Gone fans are sure to be disappointed that a sequel still isn’t in the cards, it’s much better for Bend to make a game that isn’t all but doomed and has a chance of putting the studio in jeopardy. And who knows, if this next project is a hit, Bend might have more leeway to let Deacon ride again.
