Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Has Finished Filming

The Next Sonic Movie Has Wrapped, And It's The “Best” Sonic Movie Yet Published May 15, 2026, 7:15 PM EDT Johnny Flores Jr. is a News Editor at TheGamer. He joined the team in 2024, and is focused on bringing the latest news to readers in a fun and easily digestible format. A graduate of the University of Southern California, Johnny owns a B.A. in Journalism and minor in Sports Media Studies. California born and raised, you can often find Johnny enjoying the sunshine and In-N-Out. When not gaming or writing news, Johnny can be found playing with his two male chihuahuas, Akira and August, whom he affectionately calls his sons. As if there weren't enough things to be excited about in the world of video games, Jeff Fowler just added to that hype by revealing that Sonic the Hedgehog 4, the next movie in the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog series, has wrapped filming. Taking to social media, the director who is responsible for the three previous live-action movies, revealed that the film is now headed to post-production. That's not all, though, Fowler decided to take a picture alongside Metal Sonic, the main antagonist of this adventure. As if there was any doubt, it looks like Metal Sonic will have a rather successful transition to live-action, joining Amy, Shadow the Hedgehog, Knuckles and Tails. "On behalf of this amazing cast/crew, we have filmed the BEST Sonic Movie yet and can't wait to share," Fowler wrote. As it stands, none of the three previous Sonic the Hedgehog movies have been critical darlings (47, 47, 56, respectively on Metacritic) but they've been beloved by fans and a smash-hit at the box office. The most recent movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is the highest-rated movie by user score, sitting at 8.4 on 705 ratings. Related If Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is indeed the "best" yet, then it'll have to beat that 8.4 score. Unfortunately, it'll be a bit until we find out, as the movie isn't due out until March 19, 2027, so a little under a year from now. It's Another Star-Studded Cast For Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Joining Ben Schwartz (Sonic), Keanu Reeves (Shadow), Knuckles (Idris Elba) and Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey) will be Kristin Bell as Amy. If the ending to the last movie was any indication, Amy will have a massive role. Of course, it isn't a Sonic the Hedgehog movie without Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, and though he's talked about retiring before, it appears that the comedy maestro will be back in a very familiar role. There's always been an out in the movies in the event that he didn't return, but as far as we know, he's back. Finally, in a bit of news that should put a smile on any Sonic fans' faces, all three movies are in the Top 5 of Letterboxd's all-time video game movies. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was ranked No. 3, followed by the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie at No. 4 and then Sonic the Hedgehog 2 at No. 5. Ahead of them? The Super Mario Bros. Movie and, oddly enough, Detective Pikachu. Release Date March 18, 2027 Director Jeff Fowler Writers Josh Miller, John Whittington, Patrick Casey Cast Ben Schwartz Sonic (voice) Colleen O'Shaughnessey Tails (voice) Idris Elba Knuckles (voice) Next Why Zach Cregger's Resident Evil Doesn't Need Leon Kennedy To Shine The director of Weapons and Barbarian has already proven he understands Resident Evil.
