Sonic the Hedgehog fans have had plenty of highlights over the years. Between video games, movies, animated shows, books, and more, fans are flush with content. Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which only recently lost the title of highest-grossing video-game movie domestically to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, greatly expanded the Sonic fanbase in a way that could only be done with the production of the hit family flicks. Now, a new movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, is currently in post-production and scheduled to come to theaters in March 2027. In the meantime, fans have gone back to play some of their favorite Sonic games, like 2006’s infamous Sonic the Hedgehog and the legendary Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. Each installment brought awesome concepts, stellar soundtracks, uniquely addictive gameplay, and various memorable (and sometimes meme-able) quotes to the franchise that continued to fortify the love held for the world of Sonic. 22 "Even If I'm Not Real, I'm Still The Ultimate Life Form" Shadow (Sonic Heroes) During the 2003 video game, Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog has a bit of an identity crisis where he is left questioning his own identity and if he's even real. Shadow was created by Doctor Eggman's grandfather, Professor Robotnik, as the ultimate life form. However, in Sonic Heroes, Dr. Eggman has created a series of android copies of Shadow, which begins Shadow's inner turmoil. Of course, Shadow isn't an android clone, despite the mass-produced copies that are discovered. But Shadow's true turning point is when he states the line, "Even if I'm not real, I'm still the ultimate life form... I'm Shadow the Hedgehog!" Here he appears to come to terms with either version of reality and accepts that he still is who he is, whether biologically real or not. 21 "I'll Never Understand Eggman's Tastes." Sonic (Sonic Unleashed) Doctor Eggman is a man that few could understand. And, apparently despite his main goals in life being world domination and defeating Sonic, his next biggest goal is building his own utopian theme park, Eggmanland. In the game Sonic Unleashed, Sonic and Chip first come across this extravagant and terrifying funfair and Sonic says the iconic line, "I'll never understand Eggman's tastes." Of course, in contrast to Sonic's disgust, Chip seems impressed by what turns out to be a massive death trap and is taking pictures of the park even while Sonic shakes his head. 20 "Do I Need A Reason To Want To Help Out A Friend?" Sonic (Sonic Unleashed) Sonic Unleashed saw the series return to its fast-paced roots while also taking it in an entirely new direction thanks to the two game modes. In the title, Sonic is a fast-running blue blur during the day but turns into the brawling Werehog creature at night. This quote is from the latter, taking place at night with Sonic in full Werehog version. The quote is spoken to the character Chip, who has just remembered who he is and his role in the world. As Sonic transforms into his nighttime version, Chip realizes that Sonic no longer needs his help and tries to leave. Sonic pulls him back, telling him that even though Chip can't give him anything in return, he's still willing to help. 19 "Looks Like The Party's Getting Started! Time To Rock And Roll!!" Sonic (Shadow The Hedgehog) Sonic means well, but sometimes, his carefree lines are delivered without much concern for the situation or others' emotions. This quote is spoken immediately after Shadow has a moment of introspection. As the space shuttle the two are aboard passes by a meaningful place to Shadow, he stares out the window, wondering why the location stirs up such powerful emotions for him. A series of flashbacks ends with Shadow looking in horror at his hands, bits of his memories returning. At this poignant moment, Sonic decides to come in with his bright and peppy personality. Without realizing that Shadow has just remembered something terrible from his past, Sonic takes a look out of the shuttle's window and delivers this quote. Sonic might be fast, but timing apparently isn't his strength. 18 "What You See Is What You Get. I'm Just A Guy Who Loves Adventure!" Sonic (Sonic Adventure 2) This is Sonic's response to Shadow asking him, "What are you, anyway?" The reply frames Sonic as a simple character who's just going through life one adventure at a time. The easy-go-lucky tone that Sonic uses to deliver this is in stark contrast to Shadow's deadpan response: "I see. But you know, I can't let you live. Your adventuring days are coming to an end!" The scene where this exchange takes place is iconic and has become memed in videos. Shadow (Shadow The Hedgehog) Some quotes from the Sonic franchise aren't memorable because they're good or thought-provoking, but because they're nonsensical. This quote is one of those that sticks in players' minds long after they've finished playing. Shadow delivers this quote when he discovers an unguarded Chaos emerald powering a spaceship in Shadow the Hedgehog. The consensus from fans is that the line is supposed to mean that the Chaos Emerald being easy to take is fine by him. However, the quote makes it sound like he's saying that taking candy from babies is fine by him. The silliest part of this is that Shadow only says this line in the True Hero path, which is achieved by making positive decisions throughout the game. 15 "You're Too Slow" Sonic (Super Smash Bros. Brawl) Sonic made an appearance in Nintendo's 2008 crossover fighting title Super Smash Bros. Brawl. One of Sonic's taunts in the game will remain embedded in the minds of anyone who has suffered repeated defeats at the hands of the blue character. While showing off his speed, Sonic will taunt his opponent, calling them "too slow." While this is in keeping with Sonic's skills, it wasn't long until the internet heavily memed it, and it became synonymous with Sonic the Hedgehog in general. 14 "I Have No Master, Except The Wind That Blows Free!" Sonic (Sonic And The Black Knight) Sonic just may be the only character that could get away with a line as cheesy as this one, but the meaning rings true. After all, no one is capable of controlling Sonic for long, always finding a way out of sticky situations and triumphing over his foes. Specifically, in Sonic and the Black Knight, Sonic’s abilities are tested when has to learn a new combat style, sword fighting. While this limited his freedom to run and pounce on things like he usually did, he was able to break through the handicap and turn it into something all his own to fight for what he believes in. 13 "I Will Release You From The Chains Of Your Past!" Shadow (Sonic ‘06) When Super Shadow is fighting Solaris, the god of sun and time of Soleanna in Sonic ‘06, he speaks the utmost truth. The chains of the fallen god-turned-antagonist refer to when Solaris was split in half during the Solaris Project: Mephiles the Dark. The god’s conscious mind and Iblis sought to destroy each other, by destroying itself and everything around it. Thanks to the Chaos emeralds, Super Sonic, Shadow, and Silver were there to eliminate the threat. What really rings true about the quote, however, is Shadow’s wish to ultimately avenge those who deserve it.
