They call themselves Song People, and they're once again proving it today. The Philly band showed off their unique blend of jangle-pop, dream-pop, post-punk, and folk on "Silver Flag," the lead single from new album Tho I Seem Tame. Second single "The Cone" is out now, and it continues to make me imagine a timeline in which Fairport Convention were a C86 band. Speaking of alternate timelines, "The Cone" is inspired by singer Shaina Kapeluck's trip to Brattleboro, Vermont during "blackberry winter," the final last-ditch cold snap of the season before spring sets in. "It felt as if time were moving in reverse," she recalls. It's a perfect subject for a band whose music exudes a pleasing frigidity. Let the late-breaking cold wash over you below.Tho I Seem Tame is out 10/9 on Strange Mono. Pre-order it here.
