Published Oct 5, 2026, 1:40 AM EDT Simon is a Computer Science BSc graduate who has been writing about technology since 2014, and using Windows machines since 3.1. After working for an indie game studio and acting as the family's go-to technician for all computer issues, he found his passion for writing and decided to use his skill set to write about all things tech. Since beginning his writing career, he has written for many different publications such as WorldStart, Listverse, and MakeTechEasier. However, after finding his home at MakeUseOf in February 2019, he would eventually move on to its sister site, XDA, to bring the latest and greatest in Windows, Linux, and DIY electronics. I'm a huge fan of KDE Plasma; I want to say it's about 80% of the reason why I stuck with Linux instead of going back to Windows. However, as much as I love it, some people have problems with specific parts of it. Well, the good thing about open-source software is that anyone can contribute to it, and one pet project was so good that people took to the comments to ask them to make it an official commit. This project makes an excellent KDE Connect feature even better Here's hoping it becomes a part of the desktop environment Over on the KDE subreddit, user Anurag6162 made a post titled "Make a remote for kde because kde connect remote sucked." While I personally love the KDE Connect remote, I have to admit that Anurag6162's version is a huge improvement over what we currently have. It even has its own GitHub repo if you want to try it, with the following description: Turn your Android phone into a dedicated remote control for your Linux PC, KDE Plasma Bigscreen, and media center. Built on top of the open-source KDE Connect Android framework, KDE Remote keeps KDE Connect's reliable device discovery and secure communication while providing a completely redesigned, TV-focused remote experience The remote has some lovely features over the default KDE Connect, such as a D-Pad, power controls, support for the clipboard, and a really clean look. This begged the question: if someone could sit down and make a GitHub repo for their KDE Connect remote remix, why don't they just...commit it to KDE? People in the thread asked them about making it an official part of the desktop environment, but Anurag6162 was initially hesitant. However, after some convincing, they agreed to at least contact KDE after their exams are done; the worst they can do is say "No," after all. Here's hoping something really cool comes out of this.
Someone made their own KDE Connect remote, and people want it merged with the real deal
