Abdifatah Adani, 22, allegedly knifed welfare officer Aaron Gomes “multiple times” at the Stanwell Hotel in Stanwell, Surrey. Among them was a “significant” injury to his upper body after the blade penetrated his chest cavity, the court was told. Ms Lumsden said he “lost a significant amount of blood, was very pale and going in and out of consciousness”. Mr Gomes was taken to hospital and is now in a “stable condition”, it was said. Adani, who assisted by a Somali interpreter, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address. He was remanded in custody to next appear at Guildford Crown Court on September 17. Most read in The Sun Police previously said they were not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident, and asked anyone with information to get in touch. Detective Superintendent Kate Hyder said on Saturday: “We understand this incident has caused concern within the local community, and I encourage you to speak to local officers.” Stanwell Hotel closed its doors to the public four years ago when the government announced plans to use the premises to house migrants. The Home Office has pledged to stop the use of hotels for asylum seekers by July 2029.
