Somali man arrested over ‘attempted murder’ after stabbing at migrant hotel near Heathrow airport

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing at a hotel that has been used to house asylum seekers. Officers from Surrey Police were called to Stanwell Hotel in Staines at 6.30pm on Saturday to a report of a stabbing, the force said in a Facebook post. A man in his 20s, who is a Somalian national, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The victim has been transported to hospital with “serious injuries”, it added. The force said: “Please can we ask that you do not speculate on this incident and we will continue to provide updates on this channel.” The hotel was first used to house asylum seekers in 2022. However, proposals have since been submitted to return the 56-bed hotel back to its former use. This includes providing lodging for paying guests, as well as respite for passengers at the nearby Heathrow Airport. Should plans be approved, current individuals and families living in the hotel would be expected to move out. The proposal also suggests a complete overhaul of the hotel, increasing its capacity to 96 rooms.
