‘SNL’ Weekend Update Drags Trump Over Midterm Drubbing, Stephen Miller Promotion

Interior Decorator in Chief "Going from Wiles to Miller is like trying to get through a dinner party by switching from wine to meth," Colin Jost jokes Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update rubbed in the GOP’s midterm losses and knocked Donald Trump‘s promotion of Stephen Miller as his next chief of staff. Tuesday’s midterms will leave Trump without Republican majorities in either chamber of Congress for the next two years. The president, reacting to his party’s disastrous showing, told reporters this week that he “tried hard” and “left it all on the field.” “And to continue the football analogy: failed concussion protocol,” Colin Jost joked. Trump has tried to avoid taking responsibility for the midterm results, instead blaming candidate quality. “And I’m surprised that Trump couldn’t find any new, young talent, because he used to have a guy for that,” Jost joked while showing a photo of him and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Jost added that Trump, who has been adding more and more gold to the Oval Office and has taken much more of an interest in interior decorating compared to his first term, can spend his lame duck period “doing what he does best: bejazzling the White House.” Co-anchor Michael Che then turned how Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has said he will not look to be the GOP leader in the new Congress. Instead, he will “return to his previous job of baking cookies in a tree,” Che joked, with Johnson’s face superimposed on the body of a Keebler elf. Jost, addressing how Trump on Friday replaced Susie Wiles with Miller as chief of staff, was critical. Trending Stories “Things are going to get out of hand real quick,” he predicted. “Going from Wiles to Miller is like trying to get through a dinner party by switching from wine to meth.” Also on Weekend Update, Elon Musk (Jeremy Culhane) stopped by to explain how he felt about blowing hundreds of millions of dollars on Republican candidates who lost, how the stock prices of SpaceX and Tesla dropped, and the discontinuation of the cybertruck due to low sales.
