Smirking Maduro shares new photos from US jail as ousted Venezuelan president flashes peace sign in prison jumpsuit

NICOLAS Maduro has shared new photos from his US jail – and the bizarre pics show him smirking and flashing peace signs. US forces seized the dictator, 63, and threw him behind bars on drug trafficking charges in January – where he has languished ever since. Sporting a grey prison track suit and nike trainers, the tyrant looked slimmed down – but in jovial sprits. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! Madura grins at the camera – clutching his glasses in one hand and flashing a peace sign with the other. “I am sending these photos as a small gift to all my grandchildren, to the boys and girls, and to all the good people who love us,” he wrote on Telegram. “I want you to know that we are standing firm, with our hearts full of your love,” he added. The photos emerged on Sunday – but camera data suggests they were taken on June 25, a day after two devastating earthquakes decimated towns and killed more than 6,500 people in northern Venezuela. “We will remain strong, calm and confident: God is with us. God will provide. Venezuela will rise again”, Maduro said online. The deposed dictator has been running Venezuela since 2013 – and has close ties to Russian tyrant Vladmimir Putin. Prosecutors accuse the pair of collaborating with cartel kingpins to ship thousands of tons of cocaine into the US – claims which the couple vigorously deny. “I am a decent man. I am still president of my country“, insisted Maduro at his hearing in January. The ousted tyrant joked his way through a court appearance in July – telling his lawyer he looked “very serious”. It was the third hearing since his abduction at the start of the year with the trial on the narco-terrorism charges scheduled for June 1, 2027. It comes two days after Donald Trump struck a landmark deal with Venezuela which will see the US importing 65 billion barrels of oil. The US president hailed it the “biggest oil deal in history” and claimed it would double Washington’s reserves and slash gas prices for ordinary Americans. Trump reached the agreement with temporary president Delcy Rodriguez who has been running the country since US forces booted out Maduro at the start of the year. He said on Truth Social: “This Historic Transaction MORE THAN DOUBLES American Oil Reserves, greatly increases our Oil Supply, and will substantially lower Gas Prices for all Americans, long into the future, while helping to continue to set Venezuela on a course toward Tremendous Success and Great Prosperity.” Comment now
