Slow Horses Season 8 Gets Exciting Filming Update As Apple TV Show Nears Potential Ending

Based on the Slough House book series by author Mick Herron, the hit Apple TV series premiered in 2022 and chronicles the exploits of a dysfunctional team of MI5 agents. Before the premiere of Slow Horses season 6, it was confirmed that the show would return for season 7, and a season 8 has now also been given the green light. In an interview with ScreenRant's Tatiana Hullender, Christopher Chung, who plays Roddy Ho, reveals that production on Slow Horses season 8 is now underway. Though at least two more seasons of the show are coming, Chung makes clear that he doesn't know whether there will be a season 9. Check out his comment below: We're in production for season 8 now. Season 7 is in the can, season 8 is in production, and then who knows what happens next? I don't! They literally don't tell me. When reminded that the show is running out of Slough House books to adapt, Chung jokes that he'll get in touch with Herron to move another novel along. "I need to send Mick Herron a message and see how he's getting on with writing another book," Chung says. "I don't want my job to finish." Slow Horses season 6, which has been met with glowing reviews and has a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, is scheduled to air its finale on October 21. Season 7 does not yet have a release date, but the Apple TV series has been releasing a new season every September like clockwork, making fall 2027 a likely premiere window. If Slow Horses season 7 premieres next September, Season 8 will presumably follow a similar pattern and arrive in September 2028. There are nine books in the Slough House novel series, and season 6 breaks the show's trend and adapts two novels instead of one, combining Joe Country and Slough House into one story. Season 7 will be adapting Bad Actors, while season 8 tackles Clown Town. With the book series not currently extending beyond Clown Town, season 8 could potentially be the final outing for Slow Horses. That being said, Herron has teased that he's not done writing Slough House books just yet. Speaking with RadioTimes.com, Herron confirmed that "There will be more to come," though he's not yet sure how many more. There's no guarantee that Slow Horses will adapt every Herron book, but the fact that more novels are on the way is a promising sign for the show's future beyond season 8. Star Gary Oldman, who plays Slough House boss Jackson Lamb, has on multiple occasions expressed his joy at playing the character, suggesting he might be game for additional seasons. Other cast members, including Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Aimee-Ffion Edwards, among others, would seemingly also return. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Slow Horses beyond the next two seasons, but the consistent critical acclaim and enthusiasm from the show's stars could be a sign that the Apple TV show isn't ready to kick the bucket just yet.
