Sleeper bus used in Noida minor gangrape had 9 challans of Rs 56,000 in a month

Traffic records show the sleeper bus used in the Mainpuri teen rape case racked up repeated violations before the alleged assault. In the months that followed, it repeatedly violated traffic rules while operating between Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. On May 12, two overspeeding challans were issued at two locations, including the Yamuna Expressway near milestone 72. A fine of Rs 4,000 was imposed in each case. On June 23, the bus was challaned in Noida’s Sector 168 for changing lanes without using an indicator.The violations increased in July, when the bus received several challans in quick succession. On July 1, it was challaned for overspeeding near milestone 72 of the Yamuna Expressway and fined Rs 4,000.Another overspeeding challan was issued on July 3 at Garhi Rami in Etmadpur on the National Highway.On July 4, the bus was again challaned for overspeeding on the Yamuna Expressway, followed by further overspeeding challans on July 5 and July 6 at the same location.On July 8, a Rs 26,000 challan was issued in Hamirpur for violating traffic rules.The bus was again challaned for overspeeding on the Yamuna Expressway on July 11.On July 15, it received another overspeeding challan near Delhi’s Akshardham Temple.Another overspeeding challan was issued on July 23.RS 56,000 IN UNPAID CHALLANS IN JULYThe bus accumulated challans amounting to Rs 56,000 in July alone, according to the traffic records. These fines had not been paid. In contrast, the three challans issued in May and June had already been paid.The record shows that overspeeding was the dominant violation associated with the vehicle, with repeated challans being issued on the Yamuna Expressway and in Delhi-NCR.BUS DRIVER, CONDUCTOR ARRESTED IN RAPE CASEThe traffic record has emerged after Delhi Police seized the sleeper bus in connection with the alleged gang rape of the teenage girl on August 4.According to police, the girl had left her home in Mainpuri and was travelling to Noida’s Sector 63 to meet her cousin. Amid heavy rain and darkness, she reportedly got off at Greater Noida’s Pari Chowk by mistake.An empty sleeper bus then passed by. The girl allegedly signalled the driver to stop and boarded the vehicle after being told that it was headed towards Sector 63.Police said the conductor allegedly began making inappropriate advances towards her after the bus started moving. The girl alleged that the driver and conductor subsequently sexually assaulted her and threatened her with dire consequences if she resisted.The accused allegedly dropped her near the Kashmere Gate bus terminal in Delhi later that night and fled.The girl approached Kashmere Gate police, following which an FIR was registered on August 5. Police later traced the bus and arrested its driver Kuldeep and conductor Sandeep from a bus parking area in Timarpur.The bus travelled around 47 km from Pari Chowk to Kashmere Gate.
