Sitcom star confesses he’s ‘hit rock bottom’ following separation from wife

(Photo by Evan Agostini/Invision/AP)Evan Agostini/Invision/APBy Kelly Corbett | kcorbett@syracuse.comFrankie Muniz is opening up about a low point in his life.Best known for his role in “Malcolm in the Middle,” Muniz described the last month and a half of his life as a “nightmare [he’s] praying to wake up from,” in a candid post on X on Friday.The Emmy-nominated actor’s confession comes shortly after he and wife Paige Price announced they were separating on July 1 after nearly seven years of marriage.“The last six weeks of my life have been a nightmare I’m praying to wake up from,” Muniz wrote alongside a photo of himself on Sept. 18. “Everything felt heavy, unclear and like it was falling apart at the same time. I wouldn’t wish this season on anyone.”He continued: “The unexpected gift in the middle of it is that I’ve had nowhere to hide. I’ve had time to sit with myself, do real self-reflection, and finally see the areas of my life that need work if I want to become a better version of me. Not the polished version I show the world...the actual one.”Muniz didn’t elaborate on why this period has been so difficult.The actor, who married Price in 2019, continued to note that this challenging period, which he referred to as “rock bottom,” has pushed him toward self-reflection. “I read that sometimes hitting rock bottom is the thing that wakes you up. It forces the changes you needed to make all along so you can live the best life possible. That idea has been sitting with me. In five years I believe I’ll look back at this exact low point and feel grateful for it, because the high I’ll be standing on then only exists because I went through this,” he said.The 40-year-old also encouraged his followers facing similar hardships to keep pushing through, writing: “If you’re in a low place right now too, you’re not broken. You’re being rebuilt.”The following day, Muniz was seemingly in a better mood, and shared a sweet family photo with Price in the car with their 5-year-old son, Mauz. “Post soccer shenanigans with the fam. Our little dude got a medal for excellence in sportsmanship!,” he wrote.Muniz recently reprised his role as Malcom in the Hulu reboot miniseries “Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair,” which premiered in April. He is also a race car driver, currently driving the No. 33 Ford F-150 in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for Team Reaume.
