SIR: While people struggle to get notices, CEO says nearly 80% delivered

Till September 11, 24.97 lakh, or 56%, of the notices had been delivered. | Photo Credit: File photo While people served notices for logical discrepancies and no mapping continue to face difficulties in even obtaining their notices and finding out the venue and timings of their hearings, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Karnataka, said on Friday (September 18) that more than 34.96 lakh of the 43.81 lakh notices issued across the State had been delivered. Of the notices delivered, hearings for more than 17.63 lakh, or over 50%, have been completed. Till September 11, 24.97 lakh, or 56%, of the notices had been delivered. The figure has since risen by over 22%. Hearings have also increased sharply, with 50% of the hearings held as of Friday, compared to 28.18% a week ago, said the release. In districts such as Hassan, Bengaluru South and Davangere, all notices have been delivered. In Davangere and Chamarajanagar, where the number of notices was lowest at just over 7,000, only 67.61% of hearings have been completed in Davangere, while the figure stands at 56% in Chamarajanagar. Across Bengaluru, notice delivery remains low. BBMP South, for instance, has delivered only 60% of the notices, while hearings have been completed in 45% of the cases. Meanwhile, between June 16 and September 17, the CEO’s office received 17.13 lakh forms seeking inclusion, corrections and deletions.
