Singapore Airlines Confirms Airbus A380 Flights On This Major New Route [Map]

Due to the ongoing war in Iran, Singapore Airlines has regularly changed the planned launch date of Airbus A380 flights from Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) to Dubai International Airport (DXB). While subject to change, the latest schedule sees the type from the end of next March (if it happens). This development comes amid other superjumbo changes to and from SIN. For example, while Emirates previously planned three daily double-decker services to SIN, the carrier will only have one daily operation in September, before increasing again. Etihad Airways is due to resume superjumbo flights to Lion City in October, while Qatar Airways last flew the A380 there in March 2026. Singapore Airlines A380 To DXB Earlier this year, the Star Alliance member had planned to fly the double-decker quadjet from SIN to DXB from the summer of 2026. This would have involved the type operating to the Gulf from March 29, which was the first day of the northern aviation summer based on IATA slot seasons. The war put paid to that idea. The 471-seat A380 was then due to be deployed from May 2. However, this seemed wildly optimistic given the war and the impact on demand for those flying to and from the region. It was more of a placeholder schedule, which is a temporary setup before the plans are finalized and changes are made. So it proved, with the A380 then down to begin flying to DXB on October 25, which is the start of the northern aviation winter. However, this was moved again. Indeed, Singapore Airlines currently does not have passenger flights to the UAE's busiest airport. They are due to return on October 25, with the non-first-class, 303-seat Airbus A350-900 to be used. In the latest update to Cirium Diio, Singapore Airlines now plans to fly the A380 to DXB on March 28, 2027. That's the first day of next year's northern aviation summer. This date is far enough away that the plan might come to fruition. If it does, the superjumbo will operate daily with the following schedule. Cirium shows that some DXB flights continued to other places in the past, such as Cairo, Istanbul, Jeddah, and Moscow Domodedovo. It is unclear if fifth freedom traffic rights existed. The Saudi Arabian coastal city of Jeddah was the most recently served add-on. Flights via DXB ended in April 2016. Let's narrow the focus to 2006 to 2026. In this period, Singapore Airlines deployed multiple aircraft types and variants on passenger flights to DXB. Equipment included the A330-300, A350-900, A380 (briefly in 2024), 747-400 (briefly in 2005/2007), 777-200ER, 777-300, and 777-300ER. According to booking data, 296,000 round-trip passengers only flew between those two airports in the 12 months to May 2026 (they did not transfer elsewhere). It was the second-largest market from Southeast Asia and North Asia to DXB, after Manila (649,000), which is driven by the huge Filipino diaspora in the UAE. Due to Emirates' large presence, Singapore Airlines only had a pretty small 18% share of the local SIN-DXB market. Between June 2025 and May 2026, Singapore Airlines exclusively flew the first-class-equipped, 264-seat 777-300ER to DXB, hence the photo above. Whether surprisingly or not, most of its transported passengers were local; they only flew to/from SIN. This had the benefit of being fairly high-yielding, with SIN having relatively high average fares from Asia to DXB from stronger premium traffic. No wonder it wants to fly the A380 there. Far fewer passengers transferred to another flight in SIN. Fewer than 40,000 passengers did so. The ten most popular markets were Manila, Bandar Seri Begawan, Bali/Denpasar, Jakarta, Surabaya, Kuala Lumpur, Sydney, Penang, Melbourne, and Perth.
