While Rebecca Ferguson has played quite a few memorable roles on the screen, her career presently seems to be defined by two major book adaptation franchises: Silo and Dune. While Silo played a key role in establishing her as one of television's most compelling sci-fi leads, the Dune movies introduced her to an even wider global audience as Lady Jessica. However, a closer look at Silo and Dune's new installments reveals how both are taking Ferguson's roles in completely opposite directions. Even though Rebecca Ferguson reprises her role in the new installments of both franchises, her part in Dune: Part Three is bound to leave many disappointed. Fortunately, though, Silo season 3 significantly changes her character's book story to ensure it does not tread the same path as the Dune movies. Rebecca Ferguson’s Dune 3 Role Is Limited, But Silo Season 3 Still Has Her As The Main Character It has been confirmed that even though Rebecca Ferguson returns as Lady Jessica in Dune: Part Three, she has a very limited role in the upcoming movie adaptation. During a press conference, Rebecca Ferguson even confirmed this by revealing that her part in the movie is limited to a single conversation that has already been featured in Dune: Part Three's trailer. She said (via Collider): “Mate, I’ve got one scene, and I think you’ve seen it. It’s literally in the trailer, but I can’t wait to see it. The script’s amazing.” As underwhelming as her limited screen time in Dune: Part Three may seem, it makes sense since the movie adapts Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel Dune Messiah​​​​​​​. In the book, Lady Jessica is not even present for the main events on Arrakis after she relocates back to Caladan. Early scripts did not even include her in the story, but director Denis Villeneuve eventually wrote one scene that features her. Interestingly, even according to the original Silo books, Rebecca Ferguson's character, Juliette, should not have had a big role in season 3. Silo season 2's ending aligns with that of the first book, Wool, in the original series. Owing to this, season 3 was expected to follow the second novel Shift's story before season 4 adapted Hugh Howey's Dust. The second book, Shift, unfolds more as a prequel/spin-off that features a whole new set of characters and walks through the events that led to the development of the titular silos and the central apocalypse. Juliette on briefly appears towards the end of the book. In the show, however, Juliette's arc has been significantly retconned to ensure she remains the primary focus. Instead of only focusing on the past timeline like the second book, Apple TV's Silo is going back and forth between the past and the present while still having Rebecca Ferguson's Juliette as its primary lead. Silo Season 3 Wouldn’t Have Been The Same Without Rebecca Ferguson’s Juliette Hugh Howey's approach with the second book worked quite well, but the same format of storytelling would not have translated well to the screen. Since Silo season 1, viewers have grown accustomed to seeing Rebecca Ferguson as the lead while growing attached to many other main characters from the present timeline. If the show had taken the same approach as the books, it would have to spend an entire season without characters like Juliette, who made it so compelling in the first place. While Hugh Howey's structural gamble paid off on the page, it likely would have alienated TV audiences by sidelining the series' most recognizable faces. Since Timothée Chalamet's Paul has been the face of the Dune movie series since the beginning, Rebecca Ferguson's absence from the upcoming movie is still acceptable. In Silo, however, she has been the lead since the beginning, and her absence would have potentially made the show almost unrecognizable.
