‘Silo’ Season 3 Officially Rewrites Rebecca Ferguson’s Juliette Ahead of the Final Season

Few sci-fi shows around right now are as good as Apple TV's Silo, and even fewer characters are as interesting as its lead, Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson). In Season 3, however, viewers who expected her usual modus operandi may have been surprised to see her taking more of a backseat as the boiling cauldron that became Silo 18 finally blows up. Only now, in the season finale, has Juliette come back to her best self. With Silo's fourth and final season now just around the corner, this move also sets Juliette up to be the beating heart of the story once again as it nears its final chapter. ‘Silo’s Season 3 Finale Brings Back the Best Version of Juliette Nichols The finale is built around two major storylines. In the first, Silo 1 struggles to activate the Safeguard in Silo 18, a silo-killing procedure, after Camille Sims (Alexandria Riley) fails to contain the local rebellion. The second, in Silo 18, revolves around the rebels from Mechanical dodging every obstacle to cap the pipe through which the Safeguard would poison the silo. In the middle is Juliette, who is arrested on Camille's orders, but is also the one who discovered the Safeguard in the first place. Once the pipe is finally capped and the Safeguard has failed, Silo 1 is thrown into disarray, but in Silo 18, Juliette finally comes back, in a sense. Up until then, all she could really do was sit with Robert Sims (Common) and hope the plan she and the rebels came up with would work. Once it does, she finally returns to her usual hands-on self and leads her allies to the tunnel beneath the silo to see where it leads. From then on, Juliette leads the way, does the talking, makes the decisions, and feels the weight of her decisions. Juliette Has a More Reactive Role in 'Silo' Season 3 Image via Apple TV After two seasons of watching her lead the story, Juliette's more reactive role in Season 3 might feel strange. Yet it actually makes plenty of sense, considering her position after her sudden return to Silo 18 in the Season 2 finale and how much control Silo 1 exerts over the other silos. This shift also benefited the overall plot of Season 3, giving it the space needed to flesh out other corners of the universe without sacrificing Juliette's story. There are several great examples of how much Silo 18 has grown under Juliette's backseat leadership. Camille has grown from an almost background character to a full-on antagonist, and a great one at that, while Bernard (Tim Robbins), who was the big villain in the first two seasons, earned one of the best redemption arcs in recent television. Even the storyline involving Daniel (Ashley Zukerman) and Helen (Jessica Henwick) could only be properly developed because of Juliette being shifted into the background. In order for Silo's eventual series finale to wrap up in a meaningful way, the show had to devote focus to other characters. 'Silo' Season 3 Positions Juliette at the Center of the Upcoming Series Finale With everything that happens in the Silo Season 3 finale, fans are now expecting to see Juliette at the helm once again in Season 4, and all signs point to it so far. The show has so far followed the broad strokes of Hugh Howey's book series, with some changes necessary in the adaptation process. So, if this continues for the final season, Juliette will likely become the catalyst for a rebellion that could very well free the silos and bring humanity back to the surface. It won't be easy, and there will definitely be many obstacles and twists, but if anyone can do it, it's Juliette. Silo Season 3 has left many questions open for the final season to answer, and the biggest one is naturally related to its lead character. From the very beginning, she felt like a typical hero who was always meant to represent good against evil and save the world. Now, Silo has revealed what might be behind Juliette's predestination as Daniel and Helen's potential descendant. That detail hasn't been confirmed yet, but considering Juliette's comeback and how Daniel is finally breaking free from his own troubles in Silo 1, a meeting between them may be inevitable. For the show's longtime fans, though, Juliette will always be a rock star, regardless of her origins, and Silo positioning her back in the spotlight bodes well for its ultimate conclusion.
