‘Silent Hill’ reboot movie in the works from ‘Resident Evil’ producer

The producer behind Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil movie is working on a Silent Hill revival. A sequel, which adapted Silent Hill 3, followed in 2013 and Return To Silent Hill came out earlier this year. All three movie adaptations have been panned by critics but have found a cult audience. At the start of 2026 Christophe Gans (who directed the first and third movie) told Variety he’d be up for working on a fourth Silent Hill movie and series composer Akira Yamaoka has said he wants Silent Hill 4: The Room to be adapted. However, according to a profile done by the Wall Street Journal, producer Roy Lee’s next project is a Silent Hill revival. Lee is behind A Minecraft Movie, The Ring, It: Welcome To Derry, The Lego Movie, Don’t Worry Darling and many more. CREDIT: Sony Pictures According to the Wall Street Journal, Lee asked Zach Cregger what video game he wanted to adapt while working on Barbarian, and he’s the one who went and secured the rights. Despite backlash from gaming fans about telling an original story within the world of Resident Evil, Cregger’s reboot has already taken more than $100million at the box office in under a week. It’s also become the highest-rated video game movie adaptation of all time. “My only hope is that [gaming fans] will see the movie regardless of their skepticism or their disappointment that I’m not telling some of the stories that the games tell so well. [Hopefully they will feel seen when they do watch the movie and they will recognise all of the love for the games that are in this movie,” Cregger told IGN recently. “This is not me just telling a story and slapping Resident Evil on it so I can get a budget. This is me telling a Resident Evil story. I understand the resistance, I do, because I have it myself. It is coming from a true place of love.” The next chapter of Silent Hill will launch later this week.
