Signal No. 1 raised in more areas due to Tropical Depression Kiyapo

PAGASA The highest possible tropical cyclone wind signal due to Kiyapo could be Signal No. 2, but PAGASA is not ruling out Signal No. 3 if Kiyapo becomes a severe tropical storm while crossing the Batanes-Babuyan Islands area MANILA, Philippines – More areas were placed under Signal No. 1 due to Tropical Depression Kiyapo before dawn on Thursday, July 23, to warn them to prepare for strong winds from the tropical cyclone. As of 4 am on Thursday, Kiyapo was located 950 kilometers east of Central Luzon, moving west northwest at a slightly slower 20 kilometers per hour from the previous 25 km/h. The tropical depression continues to have maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h and gustiness of up to 55 km/h. The latest forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) shows Kiyapo “may pass very close to the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan” on Friday morning or afternoon, July 24, then pass very close to or make landfall in Cagayan’s Babuyan Islands in the afternoon or evening. Kiyapo could intensify into a tropical storm on Friday as well, and subsequently into a severe tropical storm on Saturday, July 25.
