Filmmaker Jason Sanjay, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, has officially stepped into the director’s chair with Sigma. The episodic action-comedy, which released in theatres on October 2, is headlined by Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah. The movie registered a promising start at the domestic box office.According to trade website Sacnilk, Sigma collected Rs 2.35 crore net across India on its opening day, translating to a domestic gross of Rs 2.70 crore. The film drew 221,679 footfalls across 1,813 shows nationwide, achieving an overall opening-day occupancy of 31.1 per cent.The film’s performance was spearheaded by its primary Tamil release, with steady support coming from the Telugu market. The Tamil version emerged as the primary driver, raking in Rs 1.50 crore nett across 925 shows with an overall occupancy of 50.10 per cent. On the other hand, the Telugu version added Rs 85 lakh nett from 888 shows, registering an overall occupancy of 25.94 per cent. The Hindi version of Sigma recorded an overall occupancy of 43.44 per cent on its opening day. Morning shows registered 35.69 per cent occupancy, while afternoon shows recorded 46.69 per cent. Evening shows saw 39.69 per cent occupancy, with the night shows performing the strongest at 51.69 per cent.The Telugu version recorded an overall occupancy of 25.94 per cent. Morning shows registered 21.00 per cent occupancy, followed by 29.60 per cent in the afternoon. Evening shows recorded 31.10 per cent occupancy, while night shows stood at 15.90 per cent. Tamil Nadu emerged as the biggest contributor to Sigma's opening-day earnings, recording a gross collection of Rs 1.30 crore. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana together contributed Rs 1 crore, while Karnataka added Rs 25 lakh to the film's gross.Kerala contributed Rs 12 lakh, while the rest of India accounted for Rs 3 lakh. With these collections, Sigma's total India gross stood at Rs 2.70 crore on its opening day.IndiaToday.in’s review of the film reads, “Sigma ultimately lacks conviction, invention and a clear sense of direction.
